What is Pizzo famous for?
The tartufo di Pizzo — a hand-shaped ball of hazelnut and chocolate gelato with a molten chocolate centre, invented here and best eaten in Piazza della Repubblica. The town also has the Chiesetta di Piedigrotta, a church carved into a seaside cave and filled with sculpted figures.
How far is Pizzo from Tropea?
About 35 km north — half an hour by road or a stop on the coastal train line. It makes an easy half-day, usually built around the gelato and the cave church.
Is Scilla worth a day trip from Tropea?
Yes — it is an hour south, and the Chianalea quarter where the houses stand directly in the sea is one of the most photographed places in Calabria. The Ruffo castle above it looks across the strait to Sicily.
