Our guide, Manuela was fantastic! She picked all 5 groups up at their hotel (and dropped us off after) She was funny & informative. Great knowledge of local history & gave wonderful food recommendations for after trip. This was all day trip from 8:30 am-6pm. Well worth the money. 10 out of 10!

We booked this tour with the hotel receptionist and did not experience what she told us we would. Firstly, the tour started late and the guide took us to Cascais first and ended at Pena Palace. When we got to the palace the tickets were sold out and the guide told us to buy tickets to visit the gardens. He said that we were supposed to buy tickets the day before if we wanted to visit the palace but the hotel receptionist who sold us this tour said that we must not buy the palace tickets in advance because we don’t know what time the guide will get us there. When we mentioned this to the guide he said that the receptionist miss sold us because the tour doesn’t take us inside the palace. Upon returning to the hotel we told the receptionist this and she said that she did this very same tour before so we must have had a new guide. She then said she will call the tour company and find out. The tour company apparently told her that at the start of the tour the guide asked if we wanted to go to the palace and we said no. This was not true as we were never asked and the guide planned the whole day. So between the hotel receptionist, the tour guide and the tour company, everyone was just passing the buck and no one took any responsibility. It was a very disappointing experience and not worth the €69 each that we paid to just be chauffeured around to a few places.

It is never our intention to leave our guests feeling let down or ignored, and I completely understand your frustration regarding how the situation was handled. We take your comments very seriously. I am personally looking into this matter today, both with our reception team and the management of the tour company, to investigate exactly what went wrong and ensure this does not happen to future guests, but first, let us clarify a few points : The tour starts at 9 am; pick-ups take place an hour beforehand. It was during this time that your guide was delayed; unfortunately, we were unable to cope with Lisbon’s chaotic rush-hour traffic. As for starting the tour in Cascais, this choice is the result of years of experience; had we taken you to Sintra in the morning, you would have experienced the utter chaos of being in Sintra during Lisbon’s peak tourist season. The guide opted to offer you a more peaceful visit without the crowds. When the tour begins, as soon as you get into the van, the guide asks who wants to buy tickets and for which attractions – that’s how a shared tour works. You must never, ever say to buy them the day before, as we cannot have a group with tickets for different entry times. Tickets are purchased at your leisure, in the comfort of the minibus, with no queues and no rush. There are occasions when customers say they’ll decide later; in such cases, they run the risk of arriving at the Palace only to find that tickets are no longer available.
