Vintage Train to Elgin Railway Market

Description
Trains have a certain inextricable mystique about them – no wonder they’re often the setting for romantic rendezvous, murder mysteries and elaborate heists. Perhaps it’s the unstoppable forward momentum; the intimacy of the enclosed space or the sense of adventure and anticipation they evoke. Situated in a an already beautiful country, the overpowering allure of the country draws one in when sitting in this steam-hauled train as you overlook the ever-changing scenery. Our guests spend their time on the train doing what they enjoy best, whether mingling in the bar, reading a book, taking in the sights, catching up with family, or closing their eyes to enjoy the soothing sounds of the rail.

It was a fun day! The Elgin Market was also great, with a good variety of food and stalls to browse. We boarded the train in Somerset West, which reduced the train journey from six hours from the V&A Waterfront to about three hours for the round trip. Overall, it was a great experience, thanks.
We are very happy to know that you enjoyed your day with us 🤩
X2 Pensioners, X2 Adults and X1 <16yo total cost = about R1300. We did the afternoon trip departing from Botrivier Station at 1:30 PM. While we waited at the station we were able to buy coffee, pancakes, delicious home made pies, tartlets, samoosas, and biscuits and other delicious jams, pickles crafts were for sale too. But the train ride itself was the absolute highlight. The little train wanders through the mountains and valleys with spectacular scenery. The youngest in the pwrty had never been on a train before. It was nostalgic, beautiful, very relaxed and an all round delightful experience. I give it 5 stars and highly recommend. Also a big thank you to the staff on the train who volunteer their time and expertise to make it possible. PS. Don't be in a hurry. It was almost 8:00PM by the time we made it back home in Somerset West, from Botrivier.
Thank you for your kind review. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed the experience so much. It really is a beautiful part of our country. We are thankful that the Bot River community volunteer their time to keep the station and precinct clean and presentable. However, none of our staff on the train are volunteers. :) We hope to see you again in the future.
It was an exceptional experience with the family; the staff were friendly, and the journey was full of variety and evoked a sense of nostalgia for train travel from a bygone era.
We are so glad that you and your family enjoyed your trip with us! Thank you for the kind review.

Great experience Even tho we would of liked the train we initially booked for, in the end it was worth the package
We are so glad that you had a great time! We are thankful that you chose to rebook your seats to those we have available - we look forward to the rest of the train being back from Mossel Bay when the line is repaired!
Anyone looking for a novel experience - this is the one to choose. Super friendly staff have all the knowledge and experience to make the day one to remember. An activity best shared with friends, or one even to find friends. One cannot be disappointed!
Loved the experience from start to finish! The booking was easy. The emails were simple and informative. A WhatsApp group was created and this was so helpful. I especially loved the video on how to get to the parking and check-in. On the day of the trip the WhatsApp updates kept us informed of where we were going, when we'd arrived, when to board again - we were never left guessing because we knew exactly what the plan was. And every single staff member from check-in to John to Sean and everyone in between - absolutely amazing, friendly, helpful, caring, professional and they delivered their service with passion. Thank you for an unforgettable experience.
It is because of reviews like this that we continue to grow and improve our service/offerings! Thank you for taking the time to share your views. Have a great week further!
This was an amazing experience from start to finish. The process and staff were amazingly friendly and helpful from when we entered the parking area, all the way through. Bernie, the train Chaplain was fantastic! He guided us, made us very comfortable and was a delight to engage with. I would highly recommend this trip.
Bernie really brings heart and soul to our train, and to the passengers in his care. We are so glad that he is a part of our team! Thank you for sharing your positive review with us - We really appreciate it!
