Misleading Tour – Not Worth the Money

On June 28, I booked the Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel Guided Tour with Skip-the-Line Access through Viator and paid €130 for two tickets. However, we waited in line from 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., only to discover that entry was free that day and everyone entered at the same time. There was no skip-the-line service at all, which made this feel like a scam. The tour guide was also very disappointing, and many people left the tour early. I will be requesting a full refund.

Operator response

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are very sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. The service booked included a guided visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel, together with priority access. However, on particularly crowded or exceptional days, waiting times may still occur because of security checks and the entrance procedures managed directly by the Vatican Museums. Nevertheless, we understand your disappointment after such a long wait, and we are also concerned to hear that you were not satisfied with the guide. Your comments will be carefully reviewed with the staff involved. We kindly invite you to contact us with your booking details so that we can examine the circumstances of your visit more thoroughly. We remain available for any clarification. Gyash Tours

Honesty needed in Title

The tickets said skip the line. Tour was to start at 8:30am. We received a text to meet at 7:30 am. Waited in line for 3 hours. The tour guide had issues with her microphone so we could not hear her. Then it broke. So she left us to go find another. We finally left the group. We missed two other things we had scheduled that day due to all of this. Pretty annoyed. When we book things we understand times can vary. But 4 hours is ridiculous.

Operator response

Dear customer, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sincerely sorry to read that your experience did not meet your expectations. We fully understand your frustration, especially as the delays caused you to miss other plans later in the day. Please allow us to clarify that “skip the line” means access through the reserved group entrance procedure, but it does not allow guests to bypass mandatory security checks or any delays caused by crowd management, Vatican procedures, or exceptional visitor flow. This is also why guests may be asked to arrive earlier than the selected tour time, in order to complete the check-in and access procedures. That said, we are very sorry for the inconvenience caused by the microphone issue. This is not the standard of service we aim to provide, and we understand how important it is to hear the guide clearly during a guided experience. We regret that this affected your visit and that you decided to leave the group. We appreciate your comments and will use them to improve our organization and on-site assistance. We are sorry again that the experience was disappointing for you. Kind regards, Gyash Tours

Hot Tour

It took 2 1/2 hrs to get in, too crowded inside and too hot! It also took us a long time to exit. They need a better entry and exit process. If there was an emergency many people could get hurt because of exits.

Operator response

Dear Customer, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We are sorry to hear that the entry, crowding, heat, and exit process affected your experience. Unfortunately, the internal organization and management of the museums, including entrance and exit procedures, crowd control, and safety measures, are not under our direct responsibility. We truly appreciate your comments and understand your concerns. Best regards, Gyash Tours

It says that you will be...

It says that you will be able to skip the line, but that is a lie and you will end up waiting for around 2-3 hours just like everyone else who will get in for free. It said the whole thing would last for 2-3 hours, so we had other plans, but it took that long just to get inside. By the time we got inside, we needed to leave and get through the museum quickly so we couldn’t even stay with the group for the tour. I do not recommend this and it was a HUGE waste of our money.

Operator response

Dear Customer, Skip-the-line is a product that allows access to a site by using a faster entry process than the standard queue, although it does not mean that there will never be any waiting time. That is the purpose for which this product was created. However, there are situations such as heavy visitor flow, security checks, and other circumstances that can prevent this goal from being fully achieved. These aspects are managed by the Vatican and by the relevant institutions, not by us. At the entrance, there may be police officers or staff members carrying out their duties. Long waiting times are usually due to exceptionally high and sometimes unpredictable visitor numbers. We are sorry that you were not able to fully enjoy the visit because of your schedule. However, this did not depend on our service. We feel that your review unfairly penalizes us, since what affected your experience were external circumstances beyond our control. For example, the guide continued to carry out the tour properly with the group that remained until the end. We therefore kindly ask you to reconsider and remove this review, as it does not concern the quality of our service, but rather circumstances outside our control. Kind regards, Gyash Tours

Ignorant guide

It wasn’t clear whether it was a skip the line tour or not - answer is: it is not. The guide wasn’t very knowledgeable neither interesting. (Explaining why there is a cat on a painting by saying that they were a cat person…?!) The level of explanation was extremely disappointing. Tour not worth its price. Nevertheless, very happy to have been in the museums and the chapel.

Operator response

Dear Sir/Madam, we would like to clarify that the service purchased was a guided tour, conducted by licensed guides who are professionally trained and officially authorized to operate. In this specific case, the tour was led by an official Vatican guide, whose qualifications are among the highest in this field. Regarding the term “skip-the-line,” we would like to point out that this is a commonly used expression to indicate priority access and does not imply the complete elimination of waiting times, which remain unavoidable in sites subject to security checks and high visitor volume. We are sorry that the experience did not fully meet your expectations, while we are pleased to know that you still enjoyed visiting the Museums and the Chapel. Kind regards, Gyash Tours

Not as described

We waited over two hours to enter. There was no “skipping the line”. It served its purpose for me, which was a last minute booking to get into the Sistine Chapel in high season. Group was fun, guide was pleasant, so ended up being good. But not as described.

Operator response

Dear customer, thank you for sharing your feedback, and we are sorry that part of the experience did not fully meet your expectations. With “skip-the-line” services, access is provided through pre-booked tickets and dedicated routes; however, security checks and crowd management are determined directly by the Vatican authorities and, especially during high season, may still result in waiting times even for visitors with reserved access. We understand that this can differ from what one might expect. We are nonetheless pleased to hear that you enjoyed the group and found the guide pleasant, and that overall the experience turned out positively, allowing you to enter even with a last-minute booking. If you wish, you can contact us for any further clarification. Kind regards, Gyash srls

Long Lines, Late Start

It was supposed to be a 2–3 hour tour with skip-the-line entry. Instead, we waited about 2 hours in line and then spent another 2 hours inside the museum before reaching the Sistine Chapel. By that point, we were tired and hungry, making it difficult to enjoy the main reason we booked the tour. The tour was scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m., but we didn’t get through security until 11:00 a.m. While the tour guide was very nice, the commentary didn’t really hold our attention.

Operator response

Dear customer, thank you for taking the time to share your experience, and we are sorry that the tour did not fully meet your expectations. With pre-booked and “skip-the-line” tours, entry is arranged through reserved tickets and dedicated routes; however, security checks and crowd management are set directly by the Vatican authorities. Especially during peak hours and high season, this may unfortunately result in longer waiting times, which can also affect the overall duration and comfort of the visit. We are glad to hear that the guide was kind, and we understand that extended waiting can make it harder to stay engaged during the tour. We regret that this aspect impacted your enjoyment of the experience. If you wish, you can contact us for any further clarification. Kind regards, Gyash srls

SCAM TRYPADVISOR GUIDE

The free day (last Sunday of the month) makes us pay for a ticket that is free having to wait in the endless queue.ñ, in addition to paying an expensive price for something that is not real, we stayed in the museum grounds because we were much earlier and did not contact me to give the Guide Service, plus the company tells me that they do not want to refund me for a Service that I have not received. A full-fledged scam and we keep fighting for this injustice, I've never been with a company and on top of Trypadvisor, it's amazing!

Operator response

Atentamente, Gyash srls

Book skip the queue!

This is not skip the line, therefore the 2-3 hour tour, could be much shorter, our tour was literally 1.5 hours rushed. The tour guide had to push in front of people in the queue to make sure we actually got in. Make sure you book a skip the line, do not do without, the queue is at least two hours long! However for the time we were in there the guide was very informative. The parts of the museum we were rushed through, wasn't too exciting, but the sistene chapel, well worth it!

Operator response

Dear customer, thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We understand that the actual duration of the tour felt shorter and more rushed than you expected, and that the long queue at the entrance contributed to this impression. Access to the Vatican Museums is managed directly by the Vatican authorities and, on particularly busy days, waiting times and crowd control can vary, affecting how the route is handled even for guided groups. In these circumstances, the guide has to strike a balance between respecting time slots and making sure the group can enter the museum, while still following the rules and the paths indicated on site. Regarding the difference between “skip-the-line” experiences and standard access, online descriptions specify when a product includes priority entrance and when the tour still involves regular lines or dedicated lanes that remain subject to security checks and possible waiting. Your comments are helpful for us to review how clearly this is communicated on the product page and to remind our guides of the importance of explaining, at the beginning of the tour, what guests should realistically expect in terms of timing and access procedures. We are nevertheless pleased to hear that you found the guide very informative and that the visit to the Sistine Chapel was, in your opinion, well worth it. If you wish, you can contact us for any further clarification. Kind regards, Gyash srls

tour in another language

I made the reservation in Spanish, I got the entry in English and I could not change it, we did the tour in English, very short the guide, which if we were passed from the long queue when going in a group, you can do it with the headphones you can get when entering but we also had no choice, very expensive price the two 130 euros

Operator response

Atentamente, Gyash srls
