Kick off your day with your local host in the heart of Tokyo, going beyond the typical tourist circuit. Explore lively neighborhoods, local shops, and quiet backstreets tailored to your interests. It's a relaxed, friendly introduction to a day shaped entirely around what you want to see. Here’s a sample of what you can expect:
Stroll through old Tokyo in Yanaka, a historic neighborhood spared from wartime bombing. Your host will guide you through artisan shops, traditional houses, quiet temples, and peaceful cemeteries that tell the story of Tokyo’s past in a way the skyscrapers can’t.
Explore one of Tokyo’s most beloved parks, filled with museums, ponds, and shrines. Your host will share stories about seasonal festivals and historical monuments while guiding you through serene spaces like Hanazono Inari Shrine’s red torii tunnel—all free to wander.
Walk through the vibrant chaos of Ameya-Yokocho, where tiny shops sell street snacks, clothes, and local treats. Your host will help you navigate hidden alleys and introduce you to this bustling slice of daily life.
Visit Tokyo’s oldest temple at Senso-jo. Wander along Nakamise shopping street for traditional snacks and souvenirs while your host shares cultural rituals and legends that bring this historic district to life.
End your day in Kagurazaka, known for narrow lanes with old geisha houses, tucked-away shrines, and a European café vibe. Your host will reveal hidden alleys and quiet courtyards that feel miles away from Tokyo’s neon bustle.

The guide was super friendly. I am here really giving a friendly feedback. First, this was quite expensive for what we got. We could have done this without a guide and could have gone around the city in a cab and wouldn't have paid as much. We trusted the tour to take us places but we kept getting asked where we wanted to go. I don't need a guide for a private tour If I had to do homework before hand.
Hello Yacine, Thank you for your feedback! I’m glad to hear you found our host friendly, but I’m sorry to hear that your day in Tokyo didn’t meet your expectations in terms of value and planning. Our team highly values your feedback, and we are actively enhancing host training to ensure our guests receive the 5* experience they deserve. We hope to have another chance to provide a more enriching experience in the future. Warm regards, Ruslan and the City Unscripted team.
Cheata was a great tour guide. She had lots of energy and kept us going!! We saw so much of Tokyo in the 8 hour day and she made sure we got on the right train to get back to our Airbnb.
Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We're thrilled to hear that Cheata's energy and guidance made your 8-hour tour of Tokyo memorable. It's great to know she ensured you got back to your Airbnb smoothly. We appreciate your kind words!
Saya Cristina was an excellent guide. She was very courteous and she knew the information very well!
Discover with Aki snd his assistant small restaurants and bar with typical Japanese food and drinks in Ueno district
It sounds like you had a fantastic experience with Aki and his assistant, discovering the hidden gems of Ueno's small restaurants and bars! Japanese food and drinks truly come to life in these local spots. Thanks for sharing!
Truly personalized and absolutely worth it! What an excellent way to see Tokyo! It was as if I had a close friend who knew the ins and outs of the city (subway, language, bartering tips, best food places) and could simply sit back and enjoy the day. I got to choose where we went, how long we stayed and ask as many questions as I wanted. By the end of the tour, I felt confident that I could navigate the transit system, pick the best neighborhoods to explore more of and how to interact with the locals..and Masahito (my guide) felt like a good friend! I loved this version of a city tour and ended up booking they same style tour on the next stop of my trip!
Even though I am confident to get around most US cities and Europe I was nervous about navigating Tokyo. I read that there are multiple train companies and I was confused about how it would work. WE ARE SO GLAD we hired Rui from City Unscripted. She helped us get a pass that worked for all the Tokyo metros and showed us exactly how easy it is to use. We went to several "local only" experiences where we were the only white people and that's exactly what we wanted. We saw so much more in one day than we would've alone and it made the most of our first day in Tokyo. The following day we got around great and it was all thanks to Rui helping us and checking off so many boxes for our first day. I would 100% recommend this service. It was some of the best money we spent on our trip.
Excellent walking tour of Tokyo, which you can personalize according to your interests. Friendly and knowledgeable guide. An added benefit: our guide was French, who has lived for more than five years in Tokyo and with an excellent command of the English language. This fact made him better able to see through the eyes of a visitor. He also taught us to move through the somewhat complex train network, which helped us through the rest of the visit. Also gave us good advice on restaurants and other must-go places. We walked a lot, but it was certainly worth it. We highly recommend it.
Hi there, I’m happy to hear that you had an enjoyable time during your Full Day in Tokyo experience. One of our key missions is to show the authentic side of the city with a host who knows the city inside and out, so I’m glad you got to see Tokyo through a local lens. We want to make sure our experiences are tailored according to your needs and interests and that after the experience you feel more knowledgeable about the city and more confident to explore it on your own. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you visit any of our 40+ destinations. We’d love to match you with one of our 1000+ city-experts! Warm regards, Zoe
We wondered if we should pay for this full day custom "sight seeing" but it was worth every penny. Our guide, Hiroto, was wonderful. It was a very useful day, much more than just "sightseeing". We started with logistics and taking care of all our plans, tickets, pocket wi-fi, etc. for the rest of our stay. This way we could truly relax because everything got handled in an hour or so. Would have taken us days and days to do it on our own. We then spent the rest of the day visiting the most interesting places (designed our itinerary together, in the morning) and exploring places tourists would never get to (eg. Hiroto's favourite tempura restaurant, a little hole in the wall, with the best tempura ever...). We don't know if all the guides are as good as Hiroto was, but this was definitely the best way to spend our first day in Tokyo. Our advice: don't try to save by skipping this step. It pays back bundles!
I heartily recommend Patrick, our host for a tour that was both professional and friendly. We liaised beforehand and he was able to provide just what we needed. We've been in Tokyo a couple of times, but not for twenty years so we wanted to see a different part of the city, get our bearings and remind ourselves of the history and that's what we did.
Giovanni was an excellent tour guide who showed my son and I the major attractions of Tokyo. He also gave us a hands on tutorial of the Tokyo train system, an absolute must in Tokyo. Take this tour early on in your trip, it will make the rest of your stay in Tokyo so much better.
