Itinerary
Start your tour at the renowned Vatican Museums. Aside from being the home of the Pope, Vatican city is also home to the Vatican Museums, the world’s largest collection of art with 9 miles of art that could wrap around the Vatican walls 4 ½ times! It contains 54 museums, 1400 rooms, chapels, and galleries. Aside from the renowned Sistine Chapel, the museums also display the only work of Leonardo Da Vinci in Rome, St. Jerome, the Raphael Rooms, and the Pinoteca, which contains collections of the Popes, all dating back to the middle ages and are set in chronological order.
Michaelangelo’s Sistine Chapel is possibly the most well known masterpiece in modern day, with over 5 million visitors per year. It was a project the artist took on reluctantly because his focus was sculptures, and he would complain about the physical toll it took on his body. It is said that the design of the chapel from Pope Sixtus IV, is modeled after Solomon’s temple from the Old Testament, measuring at just larger than a professional basketball court! There are many more frescoes to admire here from other artists, including: Domenico Ghirlandaio, Pietro Perugino, Cosimo Roselli and Sandro Botticelli.
You will head through a secret entry into our last stop on the tour, St. Peter's Basilica: the largest basilica in the world, with markings inside the church to ensure every other basilica would fit inside. The curious visitor is treated to Michelangelo’s Pieta at the front, 150 mosaics, and Bernini’s baldacchino, which stands at 96 feet tall and 100,000 pounds of bronze! Surprisingly, there is only one actual painting in the basilica, and it can be spotted hanging above the Pieta. Many popes are buried in the church or are on display, but most of the popes are buried underneath the basilica including St. Peter, the first pope.

We had an incredible time on this Vatican and Museum tour. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable but, most importantly, absolutely fantastic with our kids. They kept everyone engaged and moving at the perfect pace—we saw all the highlights without anyone feeling rushed or exhausted. Highly recommend to any family visiting Rome, best guide we had in Italy!
This was much too long and detailed. We had a party of 16 with varying interests. Getting into the Vatican was chaos splitting groups and tickets with no explanation. Rahul then started the tour and went into way too much detail. I asked him to condense, he ignored. After one hour, many had taken off their headsets and could no longer listen to the rambling on and on about brush strokes and so many other details. He would go on and on in rooms where it was packed and extremely hot. Twelve of us chose to leave early from the tour because we had lost interest. If you are a super catholic and really love art and need to know every detail, this is the tour for you. For those that want to browse through and just experience the Sistine Chapel, do not book this.
What a great tour! Exactly what we wanted! Mario was a great guide! He was super knowledgeable and kind!
The guide was passionate about the history and gave us a great tour.
We had a wonderful time with Serena, our guide. She was incredibly knowledgeable and filled the three hours of our tour with lots of knowledge, humor, and history. She always stopped to answer and questions and if there was an area of the tour we wanted to do, she made sure to take us! Cannot recommend enough!
So much easier and better with a knowledge guide! Met up at an entrance to Vatican and all tickets and tour was organized from start to finish. Rahul’s went at our pace and shared a vast amount of knowledge throughout. Highly recommend!!
We did this private small group tour in early July 2026. We had a total of six people, three of who had been to the Vatican before and three who had never been. For us, three hours was the perfect amount of time for this tour, no need to do something longer in our opinion. Plus, you can walk around St Peter's on your own for however much time you like once you are inside. Rahul was a phenomenal tour guide! Since it was a private tour, he asked us at the beginning if there was anything we wanted to particularly see or focus on. In our case, we definitely wanted to see the Sistine Chapel, as well as the underground tombs and any "fun" things Rahul thought worth pointing out along the way. Rahul struck a great balance with our group and kept a comfortable pace, not too quick not too slow, and did not dwell too long in any one place (some tour guides focus a lot of time on their "favorite" items, which can waste time, this often can happen in the larger group tours). Rahul is also extremely knowledgeable about both the history as well as current practices at the Vatican, and he entertained all of our questions, usually with some interesting trivia. The small group private tour is a bit more expensive than the larger group tours, but would highly recommend it if you can do it for the Vatican since it really is such a special experience. And we would agree with what many people say to go first thing in the morning, before 9:00 if possible. We met up with our tour guide at 8:00 so were able to be some of the first people inside that day. Going early is particularly critical in the summer months since it can get really hot (in our case, there was a heat wave, so it was crazy hot in the middle of the day) and really crowded once the cruise tours start showing up. If you get Rahul as a guide you are in for a treat.
A great tour. Rahul was our guide and he was excellent. He shared incredible info and his knowledge with us and even after completion of tour assisted us in finding great place to eat and easy transportation back to our hotel!
Rosa was incredible! Great communication in advance, she was very personable, informational and amazing with kids! She kept the tour fun, humorous, interesting and educational! I would highly recommend her!
Our tour guide Elisa, was amazing, the whole experience was seamless and enjoyable!
