Our first destination is the legendary ancient city of Ephesus — one of Turkey’s most magnificent archaeological treasures. Once a thriving hub of the Ionian League, Ephesus stood as a major port and commercial center on the western shores of Asia Minor, near present-day Izmir.
The House of the Virgin Mary
Our second stop is the sacred House of the Virgin Mary, nestled in the serene Aladağ Mountains, just five miles from ancient Ephesus. According to tradition, Mary journeyed to Ephesus with St. John in 37 A.D. and spent the final years of her life here until her passing in 48 A.D. Recognized as a holy site, it was declared a place of pilgrimage by the Archbishop of Izmir in 1892.
