A Dreamy and Delicious Day in Tokyo

Description

This is the perfect tour to make you feel like a true local. We go to several food stops that are hard to access for the regular traveler. Many places in Japan require Japanese so having a guide who can translate and guide you through the menus is key. The neighborhood we explore is filled with quaint eateries, tiny bars, and coffee shops - all of which we taste from. Fun opportunities pop up along the trip like a classic old candy shop, an award-winning chocolatería, a special sake store, and even a vintage kimono store. While we explore, you will learn the history of the area and have the most gorgeous photo opportunities. It’s a tour you do not want to miss!!!

We begin the trip at a local favorite third wave coffee shop, after which we go to a lovely patisserie for a special breakfast snack, then enjoy a freshly made onigiri. Wonderful Tokyo food experience we’ll never forget!

We had a wonderful time on our full day tour with Stephanie. She took us to some amazing places in Nakameguro and we loved eating at small local restaurants. Our traditional Japanese breakfast included rice made in front of us and served in several forms with different accompaniments. Our next meal of fresh soba noodles was also delicious. In between we enjoyed sparkling wine flutes topped with cotton candy ( a treat I didn’t know existed but now want to recreate ). We also had a sake tasting with snacks and a wonderful walk along the river with cherry blossom views. All along the way Stephanie explained what we were seeing or eating, ordering for us in Japanese and translating the menus. She made the day fun and took away the stress of exploring a new city. Highly recommend booking a tour with Japan Food Trips

We loved this tour!

Spending the afternoon and evening in Nakameguro with Stephanie was one of the highlights of our time in Tokyo. She is a wonderful host and we highly recommend her to anyone we can. We opted to include dinner with our afternoon tour and had an incredible yakitori meal in a local place after stopping for a drink in a cool underground bar for locals. Having a host who speaks Japanese makes all the difference when you are ordering food and drink in local spots. The tour visits local shops as well as food for lunch, snacks, drinks and dinner. We had a great sake tasting stop and visited a local 'department' store that has to be experienced to be believed. Stephanie has a great understanding of the history of the area that enhances your cultural view. We highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to experience the feeling of being a local in Japan.

Food tour - off the beaten path

What an incredible tour to get insight into a neighborhood in Japan. We went on a tour with Stephanie and we felt like we had a much better idea of what it is like to live in Japan and get some wonderful food experiences. We visited a bakery, a chocolate shop and had some Goyza. We got to eat some local favorites and it was amazing. The chocolate shop was incredible. They make the chocolate in the shop and we got to sample some of the different types. Also on the tour Stephanie gave us insight into some local culture, visiting a local shrine and the customs of the people who live there. She is a delightful guide and exceptionally knowledgeable . I would highly recommend this tour!

A walking food tour currated to perfection!

We had a delightful afternoon walk and food tour and experience in the most vibrant Nakameguro section of Tokyo with foodie and Sakie somolier Stephanie Haddad. She shared her knowledge of life in Tokyo as we strode around this unique neighborhood as she treated us to sweet bakery delicacies along the canal before taking us by a very quant local shrine where we learned Buddahist customs and fortune telling. The chocolate shop she took us to had the most unique and wonderful chocolates and the tasting there was extraordinary as we tasted delicious chocolates from around the world. After that we were treated to the most incredible dumplings in a local dumpling shop that were fresh and steamed to perfection. Each experience Stephanie currated on this walking food tour was fantastic!

Half day tour was unbelievable! Ended up booking a whole day!

Book a food tour with Stephanie and it was SO MUCH FUN! We ended up booking another whole day with her because we just wanted to keep exploring the food in Tokyo. Half a day wasn't enough. She knew all these hidden gems and local spots. From unbelievable omakase sushi, to a hole in the wall curry spots, an old underground coffee shop, gyoza, pastry shops, to then ending the whole night at my personal favorite the Golden Gai bars drinking the best Japanese Whiskey! It was so much fun. She was so knowledgable and was just the sweetest host. Take me back Tokyo!

The ultimate afternoon!!

I’ve been on two tours with Stephanie and each one was the highlight of my visits to Tokyo. From Wagyu, Sando, Gyoza, and Chocolates, and Deserts, I couldn’t stop eating! She’s a delight to be with, like having a friend for a day who knows exactly where to go, what to do, what to eat, and who perfectly navigates this amazing city. I’ll be back for a third tour!

A MUST BOOK!

I owe everything to Stephanie of Japan Food Trips for making my trip to Japan one of the most magical trips of my lifetime! If you want a uniquely catered tour with someone who has lived in a hip Tokyo neighborhood for over 5 years, traveled all throughout Japan, knows the best hidden gems, local hangs, coffee shops, restaurant, shops etc., this is your tour!  You won't get stuck going to the instagram, tiktok traps.  I had some of the best food I have ever had in my whole life and I don't mean that lightly. It truly helps when you have someone who not only knows the spots but knows all of the chefs, owners and masterminds behind these places. You walk in feeling like a welcomed guest and it makes all of the difference in the world. It was so refreshing as a solo female traveler to have someone make me feel so warm and welcomed. Also, having Stephanie to bridge the gap between the language barrier was a huge plus when you need a moment to not have to look down and use google translate. Stephanie went above and beyond and I have told all of my friends that they must book with her while visiting Japan. I cannot recommend this tour enough. 10/10, Run, Don't walk. I promise you will be so glad you did!

Best tour guide in Tokyo!!

Can't say enough about Japan Food Trips and its fearless leader and top Tokyo guide, Stephanie. I was blown away by how she was able to blend Japanese culture, history, architecture, retail shopping, oddities and most importantly FOOD into one seamless experience. We did a private custom Nakameguro/Daikanyama afternoon tour, then a private custom evening tour of Shibuya/Omotesando/Aoyama. Later, with a friend group we did a private custom afternoon tour of Yoyogi and evening tour of Ebisu. As Anthony Bourdain once said, "I'm sure I could spend the rest of my life [in Tokyo], learn the language, and still die happily ignorant." With Stephanie, you can rest assure that your precious time in Tokyo will immerse you in a city unlike any you ever experienced.

Highlight of our trip!

This was truly the highlight of our trip. I was nervous taking our 1.5 yr old on this tour but she had a blast! The food was amazing but the overall experience was even better.
