4-Day Salkantay Trek

We had the best hike up the Salkantay Pass the mountains are truly beautiful. Machu pichhu on day 3 was awsome. Everything was so well oranised by the best guide Jorge Luis Alfredo Ochoa. Hes was the sweetest most caring guide ever. He waited in the Machu Picchu line early in the morning just sonwe could sleep longer and be the first ones in line. I can definetly reccomend Sam Travel but Jorge is what made our tour truly special. If you get lucky he will be your tour guide on the trek. (ps he has all the knowledge in the world)

What an experience of a lifetime. Our travel guide, Joseph, and our chef, Andres, both went above and beyond to make our trek incredible. Joseph is a true master of the mountain trails. He is articulate, friendly, and encouraging to hikers on his care. He always makes sure you know the plan. A truly fun guy to hang out with, too. When a couple hikers in our group got sick, one of them on Sankaltay Pass trail, he put many extra steps in going back and forth to make sure the fellow hiker got to safety by horse, and he was in total confidence the whole time. You're in good hands with Joseph. Now, regarding food, I am 20+ years vegan, and I fully expected to have a hard time when it came to the catering on the trail. Chef Andres not only fully understood what vegan means, he made every meal a culinary work of art, and the fellow hikers in my group were in awe of the dishes Andres made just for me. And he never made a mistake on vegan ingredients, always confident in what he made. Keep in mind, Andres and his crew made the hike with us every day, which usually kicked our asses, but Andres and his team made incredible dishes 3 times a day after hiking. It was just unbelievable how hard this crew works and how passionate they are about their work. It was a great fortune to have booked through Sam Travel and to have gotten Joseph and Andres taking care of us out there.

This was just the most unforgettable experience. I could not recommend Sam Travel enough, the Salkantay is of course incredibly beautiful and seeing Machu Picchu was a dream come true for us, but what really made the experience was the team behind Sam Travel, especially our guide Elias Usca. He was the kindest, most knowledgable and friendliest guide I have had on a hike in my life, we miss him already! His humour was unmatched, and he went above and beyond to ensure we were all enjoying ourselves as much as possible. I cannot quite put into words how special he made the experience and how much we loved him! Eberth was the chef and the food was just phenomenal throughout. He trekked across to our campsites and cooked up a storm, catering for any dietary requirements very impressively. The campsites were remarkably comfortable, with hot water and WiFi, and the experience of sleeping in star domes is one I will never forget. Our group was so lovely, we all got on so well and all the people made our experience so special. Memories to last a lifetime, and I hope to be back again!

Salkantay 4-Day Hike Our 4-day Salkantay trek was an absolutely unforgettable experience! The scenery was incredible, from the dramatic mountain landscapes and snow-capped peaks to the lush valleys and beautiful trails. Every day brought something new and made all the effort completely worthwhile. A huge part of what made the trek so enjoyable was our hiking guide Elias Usca. Elias was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and supportive throughout the entire journey. He made sure everyone was comfortable, kept us motivated when the hiking got challenging, and was always happy to answer questions and share interesting information about the local area and culture. His experience gave us confidence, especially during the more difficult sections of the trek. Lastly, what I truly appreciated was that on our last day of the trek experience going up to Machu Picchu he saved us a lot of time by guiding through the buses and line. The organization was great, and the whole experience felt safe, well planned, and enjoyable from start to finish. The food was better than high end restaurants. I would highly recommend the 4-day Salkantay trek to anyone looking for an amazing adventure in Peru—and having a great guide like Elias Usca makes the experience even better. An unforgettable trip that I would happily do again!

We had an amazing time on our salkantay trek with Elias Usca as our guide! We actually were supposed to be doing an inca trail trek with SAM travels, but a landslide caused the trail to be closed! They contacted us promptly and helped us find an alternate trek immediately that would still get us to machu picchu. We were worried about the difficulty, and although it was certainly tough, our guide went above and beyond to help us all the way. Got us horses for the harder bits, even offered to carry our packs when things got tough. The whole while he was encouraging and so friendly. Cracking jokes and keeping our spirits up. He knew so much about the sites and was always offering information and pointing out interesting things. Cant say enough good things about him. We wouldnt have made it without him as well as Eberth and our cook/porter team who kept us well fed and happy! Another thing was sam travels as a whole was always looking for ways to tailor the trek to us and they helped find alternate paths when some in our group were unable to continue as planned. Definitely will be recommending to others!

The best experience that we could have had,we were with a guide named Elias Eberth he was just awesome always saying funny jokes and felt like we knew him for decades,he always gave us the best advice before every activity.Nothing but the best

Jorge Luis Alfredo Ocheo was the best Tourguide. He told us a lot of the story from the incas and we could ask him a lot, it was very interesting. I definitely would recommend this tour!

I’m 38 years old and traveled with my boyfriend, and we did the 5-day Salkantay Trek with Sam Travel. We chose them because, compared with some of the other trekking companies, they offer smaller groups. We really enjoyed the more intimate group size and were lucky to have such a great group of people to trek with. The chef and assistant, horsemen, and, of course, our tour guide Rolando were all amazing! Rolando was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and thoughtful. He explained the history and culture along the trek in detail and was always happy to answer our questions. He constantly checked to make sure everyone was comfortable, and doing good. We had terrible weather on the first and second days of the trek, and honestly, without Rolando’s, it would have been harder to complete. He made sure we stayed safe, kept us motivated, and encouraged us to keep going even when the conditions were difficult. I feel very lucky that we had such wonderful travel companions and an amazing group throughout the trek. I can barely walk lol but it was incredibly rewarding, and I would definitely recommend Sam Travel to anyone looking for a smaller group and a great trekking experience! Thank you so much!

I completed the 2-day Salkantay Trek as a solo traveller, and it was one of the best experiences of my trip to Peru. Although I was only doing the 2-day trek, I joined a fantastic group of trekkers who were completing the full 4-day route. It was a great way to meet people while still enjoying the benefits of a more personalised experience. The highlight of the trek was undoubtedly my guide, Pepe. From the very first day, he was friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the mountains and local culture. He shared fascinating insights throughout the hike and always made sure I was comfortable, enjoying myself, and getting the most from the experience. The scenery was simply breathtaking. The views of the snow-capped Salkantay Mountain and the surrounding Andean landscapes were spectacular and unlike anything I had ever seen before. Every section of the trek offered incredible photo opportunities and unforgettable views. Even though I was travelling solo, I never felt alone. The group doing the 4-day trek were great company, and it was fun sharing part of their journey while having the flexibility that came with my own guide. What made the trip truly special was the friendship I developed with Pepe over those two days. By the end of the trek, he felt more like a friend than a guide. After returning to Cusco, we even met up for a great night out before I flew home, which was a fitting end to an unforgettable experience and a testament to how welcoming and genuine he was throughout the trip. Everything was extremely well organised, and the whole experience exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend this trek to anyone looking for incredible mountain scenery, a rewarding adventure, and a truly authentic experience in Peru. A huge thank you to Pepe and the team.
