Day Trips from Lahore: The Best Itinerary

Punjab spreads flat and far from Lahore, and the good day trips are either short and eastward or long and northwest into the Salt Range. Here are the ones worth your time, with the tours to book.

At a glance

  1. 1Wagah border
  2. 2Nankana Sahib
  3. 3Kartarpur Corridor
  4. 4Khewra Salt Mine

East: the border

Wagah at sunset, 40 minutes away, usually combined with the Shalimar Gardens on the way.

Sikh Punjab

Nankana Sahib at an hour and a half; the Kartarpur Corridor gurdwara at two and a half.

The Salt Range

Khewra and Katas Raj, four hours each way — a full day, and worth it for the salt galleries alone.

Day trips from Lahore — FAQ

What are the best day trips from Lahore?
The Wagah border ceremony (40 minutes), Nankana Sahib (1 h 30), the Kartarpur Corridor gurdwara (2 h 30), and the Khewra Salt Mine with the Katas Raj temples (4 hours each way). Harappa, the Indus Valley site, is three hours southwest.
Can you visit Harappa from Lahore?
Yes — it is about 180 km southwest, roughly three hours, and guided day tours combine the site and its museum with the shrine of Baba Farid at Pakpattan. Expect a long day and a modest site: most of Harappa is still underground.
Do you need permits for day trips from Lahore?
Not for Wagah, Khewra or Harappa. The Kartarpur Corridor has its own entry process on the Pakistani side, which tour operators handle — book several days ahead rather than the night before.
