Catholic tradition holds that the basilica is the burial site of Saint Peter, chief among Jesus's apostles and also the first Bishop of Rome (Pope). Saint Peter's tomb is directly below the high altar of the basilica, also known as the Altar of the Confession. For this reason, many popes, cardinals, and bishops have been interred at St. Peter's since the Early Christian period. St. Peter's is famous as a place of pilgrimage and for its liturgical functions. The pope presides at a number of liturgies throughout the year both within the basilica or the adjoining St. Peter's Square. As a work of architecture, it is regarded as the greatest building of its age. St. Peter's is one of the four churches in the world that hold the rank of major Papal basilica, all four of which are in Rome, and is also one of the Seven Pilgrim Churches of Rome.

Detailed and thorough. Knowledgeable guide with excellent English.
Philomona was excellent guide throughout.
Very interesting and educational tour. Filo was a very good tour guide and knew all the facts really well
Booking experience was good. They were on it in the backend, but this experience seems like it could have been better w/o a guide, although typically a fan of guides. Took too long—a hard follow. Trying to be polite…
We had an excellent time with Antonio during our tour of the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica. He is fascinating, very friendly, but above all really funny! His humor makes the tour lively, light, and very pleasant, all while teaching us a great deal. You really don't see the time passing. A great tour that we recommend without hesitation! Thank you Antonio 😊
Paid 3 times an entry ticket to get guide service and skip the line but it was more chaos than paying cheaper price and they didn't help in any way just printed the ticket for us and gave us a map
Fantastic guide. Very knowledgeable
Access to the Vatican museum remains 45min despite the skip-the-line ticket.
