Thorsmork by Super Jeep with Optional Hike

We had a wonderful Þórsmörk Super Jeep tour with Tomas. The entire experience was fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable, with spectacular scenery and beautiful stops along the way. Tomas was highly professional, knowledgeable and very warm and friendly. He shared interesting information throughout the tour and was also a genuinely engaging conversationalist. It was a memorable day and one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland. We would highly recommend both the tour and Tomas as a guide!

Our guide was a local and exceptional growing up in that area!!! We expected an open jeep and it was like a van that could cross streams. If you have any difficulty walking on uneven surfaces or going up and down paths, ask questions before you book. There are 4 hikes each about 45 minutes. Due to my age and surgery hasn’t been needed due to my activities, I only did 2 of 4 hikes.

We booked this tour through Arctic Adventures and had to meet near Hella as we were staying close to there. Siggi and his wife Linda were exceptional guides and very friendly and helpful. They took us to places you could only dream about. Our first stop was a pretty canyon and waterfall. You had to be a bit agile to make it to the hidden cave area but with a little help from Siggi my wife was able to make it. Our next stop was a short walk to the base of a huge glacier where the overflow reaches the valley floor. The 2010 eruption actually occurred under that glacier. A big part of the plume was steam from the melting ice. The flow of water from that event also flooded a small lagoon that existed at the base of the glacier and destroyed the one wall. That lagoon fully drained and doesn’t exist today. While we were there the ice cracked somewhere up the ice flow and made a loud booming sound like thunder. Our next stop was the volcano huts. This is a remote base camp for hikers and anyone exploring the Icelandic highlands. We took a trail that took us from the Langidalur campsite to the next camp, Thorsmork. We enjoyed a hot meal there as part of the tour. We got back in the bus and headed to the Stakkkholtsgja canyon. This hidden canyon is a 2km round trip. The footing is treacherous as it’s a layer of rocks between fist and head size and there are several stream crossings. At the end is a waterfall deep in the rocks which is truly spectacular. We highly recommend booking this tour.

We packed in 5 days of adventures and sights and this was our favorite experience, hands down. Our driver was friendly and informative while managing the rough terrain well. He encouraged us to sit up front and enjoy the gorgeous natural beauty. We were dropped off at the base in Langeidalur and hiked to the top (strenuous/steep but manageable for my husband and I - both 62). It is well worth it when you are treated to the vast breathtaking views. We hiked down and enjoyed a coffee in the Volcano huts while waiting for the bus to take us back. There is also light food available and the vibe is relaxed and accommodating.

Porsmork super jeep adventure was an awesome experience. Very comfortable 4x4 super jeep, incredible scenery, short walk to glacier where we witnessed two rock slides, easy optional uphill hike to amazing views, walk to canyons and caves, explore black beach with small boat wreck, delicious lunch of soup options and dessert. Best of all was our guide Baddi who was very knowledgeable, funny, friendly, open hearted and entertaining. Thank you for an amazing day.

These super jeep trips are amazing! These guys brought us to the vulcano huts (we were the only two guest at that moment, low season) and the jeep tour was great. Beautiful landscape and very friendly en flexibel drivers! Thank you so much for this adventurous experience.

Excellent tour in a Super Jeep, amazing scenery, wonderful hike with breath taking views, great food and fantastic guide!

This was one of our MOST memorable experiences for our family of 5 adults while in Iceland. Our guide, Hendrik, was so knowledgeable and maintained an excellent pace. He shared a number of stories about Iceland and its folklore. Our overall group size was about 12 or so, and we never felt rushed. We saw so many beautiful things! The ride across the many river crossings was so much fun. Walked up to a glacier - about 50 yards away or so - and then looked down on that same glacier after a phenomenal hike up to the top of Fimvorouhals trail with stunning 360degree views - including the valleys below and of Eyjafjallajokull as well. We hiked back down the other side to the Volcano Huts where we had a delicious lunch (included) of soups and other items. We reconnected with another part of our group that had opted for the shorter, less strenuous valley hike, and then back to the super jeep for more explorations, including one of the many Game of Thrones filming sites scattered across Iceland. This was an amazing day!!!

Fantastic tour! The hike was amazing! We saw a lot of the area. Lunch was great. Highly recommend it.
