Description

Enjoy a sunset and stargazing experience in Teide National Park, one of the world’s top locations for night-sky observation. Tenerife is known for its clear skies and Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak at 3,715 metres. Pickup is included from selected meeting points in Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas, and Los Cristianos, followed by a scenic drive through the island’s volcanic landscapes. Watch the sunset from a high-altitude viewpoint as the sky fills with colour. Once night falls, we carefully select the best stargazing location based on weather and sky conditions to ensure the best possible experience. Using professional telescopes and laser pointers, your guide will explain constellations and stars. Depending on conditions, observe the Moon, planets, nebulae, star clusters, or the Milky Way. With guide assistance, you can take photos through the telescope using your own smartphone. Return transport included.

We'll arrive at a great location to enjoy sunset and beautiful views from above the clouds. Standing between a lava landscape with views to volcano Teide behind us. We also take pictures for you as a nice reminder of this beautiful moment. After the sunset we guide you through the national park Teide showing and explaining you some of the great volcanoes with their history. This is a great opportunity allowing us to see the amazing volcanic landscape before it gets dark until we reach our final destination at around 2000m where we'll be starting the very unique stargazing experience using powerful telescopes and laser to show you constellations and some of the important stars. Very expensive for what it is!

Tourist trap type restaurant, just like the activity. Two full buses end up at the summit and share 5 telescopes for an ultra-quick and uninteresting observation. The icing on the cake: the very (too) fast bus ride down with a driver in quite a hurry.

Full of STARS on Teide, less than zero for this experience!

We booked a tour with operator pickup at 8:30 PM from Los Cristianos. On the day of the tour, almost at 2:00 PM (past the 24-hour cancellation window), the tour operator wrote to us to say that they would be closing Teide National Park from 5:00 PM. So, a little over 3 hours before the new meeting time, we had to scramble to change our plans, and it was an unpleasant discovery for several reasons: 1) The tour operator told us that pickup in Los Cristianos was not included and that we therefore had to get to Teide on our own. 2) We had to be there with warm clothes, sunglasses, and dinner by 5:00 PM. Here are some considerations for Viator and also for the tour operator "Tenerife Stars": 1) Communicating such a change 3 hours beforehand and without communication between Viator and the tour operator is highly incompetent. 2) Communicating this after the free cancellation deadline is highly unfair. What would we have done if we hadn't had a rental car? What could we have done if, at the time of the notification, we had been on the opposite side of the island, considering that the original time of the tour would have been almost 4 hours later? 3) Vacations are the only time of the year when you can do things calmly and without rushing... this way, we were forced to rush with the anxiety of being left out and losing €80, just throwing it away due to someone else's incompetence... 4) We are convinced that the Civil Guard had already informed you earlier that they would close the park at that time and that you could have organized yourselves much better, or in any case, you should have facilitated the visit in some way. On the contrary, quite the opposite, we arrived just in time, and for us who had not requested dinner included, we were treated like commoners; they made us wait to one side until they had finished feeding everyone, convinced that there would be something organized for us afterward. NO AND NO... We waited only to be told, "Well, the meeting point is here at 9:30 PM and now you can go take your walks and watch the sunset..." what was the point of waiting?! 5) It was the night of the eclipse and all the people around had glasses to see the phenomenon... Not even those for us.. 6) When the actual visit arrived, there was a bit of an explanation about the constellations, but nothing exceptional, and they only let us see 3 points with the telescope. 40€ per person for something we could have easily done without a reservation. WE CONSIDER IT A TRULY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE.

Bad experience

I do not recommend it, it was my first outing and on the same day around almost 2pm they changed the schedule, notifying us via a WhatsApp message; they don't even call to see if the client is at the pickup point. Lack of organization.

Highly recommended

The excursion was absolutely brilliant!! The meal was lovely too! Ozzy was just unreal, so funny, friendly and knowledgeable. He made the excursion for us. The photographers were both so lovely and looked after us so well. I cannot recommend these guys enough!! We did this excursion on our last night of our holiday and it was perfect!! When we come back to Tenerife we will definitely be doing this again.

Highlight of my holiday! 100% recommend!

Wow! I highly recommend this excursion! This was the highlight of my holiday! This trip was perfect from start to finish. The views were breathtaking. Ozzi the tour guide is charismatic and funny and his knowledge about the stars is second to none! I learned so much from him. I will definitely be booking on to this again. The views of the stars were so clear and watching the sunset above the clouds was beautiful. I can not wait to do this again! Thank you Ozzi - this was spectacular. Just perfect!

Beware on what your buying and what you get waiting seems to be the main theme

We arrived at the pick up location at 1730 as we missed the text sent that day to say pick up was 1820, we did try to contact the company by phone, by message centre and no reply. a coach full of people arrived and we were made aware that we were in the minority who had not booked the meal element of the trip as suggested by their advert with dietary issues. On the final pick up the coach was full and only then were we told we had a 25 minute drive to the restaurant, for us and the others who did not book the meal (we were identified individually) we would have to sit and wait for the others to eat their 3 course meal, guide suggested a coffee while we wait would be a good solution. We decided along with others to get off the bus and get an uber back to the hotel. This is falsely sold and not what the Viator add says, spend your money elsewere.

Operator response

Thank you for your feedback. However, we would like to clarify some important points, as several details mentioned in your review are clearly explained before booking. The information about the no-meal option, including the fact that guests choosing this option may need to wait while the other guests have their meal, is clearly stated on Viator. We also explain that guests can order something for themselves or bring a snack if they prefer. We also sent this information to you by WhatsApp, but unfortunately it appears the message was not read in time. We always recommend carefully reading the excursion details and inclusions before booking, so that the chosen option matches your expectations. We would also like to clarify that no other guests left the bus because of the tour. One lady did leave because she was feeling unwell, and the couple were able to reschedule without any problem. We understand that everyone can have a different experience, but we feel it is important to comment on your own experience rather than make assumptions about other guests without knowing the circumstances.

Wasted evening. You can see more clearly by looking at the sky

This trip was a waste of time, a waste of money and a waste of a perfectly good evening on holiday. Whilst the guide wasvery friendly and quite informative, the evening was a bit of a waste, lots of waiting around, you share a telescope with around 15 people when it is your turn and you do get to look through the telescope, for about a minute, You just see white speckles, if you are expecting to actually see detail then don’t waste your money. I genuinely could see better with own eyes just looking up at the sky, I asked the guide why I couldn’t see much and he said it’s because the stars are far away, I really thought I was actually going to see something, don’t waste your money and don’t waste your evening .

Operator response

Thank you for your feedback. Stargazing is primarily an experience for people interested in understanding more about stars, galaxies and the universe. Our telescopes are very powerful, and what you observed was M13, one of the brightest globular clusters in the Milky Way. As explained during the tour, through a telescope you see light collected and reflected by the mirror, not the colourful images seen in astrophotography. We clearly explain this so guests know what to expect. It’s a shame this wasn’t fully understood, as guests who listened and asked questions found the experience fascinating. Stargazing from Teide National Park is a unique opportunity, and astronomy enthusiasts would truly appreciate seeing objects like M13 from such an exceptional location. We always encourage guests to ask questions and listen to the guide so they can better understand and enjoy what they are observing.

Unique family experience

We (a family of four, with a 5yo and a 3yo) had a great time on the tour. Our guide was extremely well-organised, well-informed, and amusing. We chose the self-drive option, as we had young children with us, which worked well (except for some slight difficulty finding parking at the sunset spot). The meal was tasty, with some authentic Canarian food, and good options for the little ones. The sunset was beautiful. It was interesting to look through the telescopes, but the best bit was simply being out in the National Park at night, and seeing the moon rise over the incredible volcanic landscape.

Hello, We are vers satisfied. The driver Pablo and his playlist was very nice. And at time. The place for observation is amazing. The guide is fun and very interesting. The moon was full. It was finally a bad lucky because i hoped to see the maximum of stars in the sky . I will take care about this the next time. I recommend sincerely this excursion. Thanks again for all your organisation. Melanie and Olivier from France

Ok but over crowded

The sunset veiwing point was beautiful but overcrowded with two tours in a small spot. The guide was great and friendly and knowledgable but had way too many people and languages on his own to do anything swiftly. After doing a stargazing experience in Egypt in the desert I was disappointed to find this one is held in a car park with lots of lights around from the local church and cars driving past. I’d hoped it would be in a darker more secluded spot. With only 5 telescopes to what felt like 60 people ish it felt chaotic and badly organised. The guide needed someone to help him organise. The moon looked fantastic but by 11.15pm that’s all we had seen and to be standing that whole time in a car park we gave up and left. Just too many people for one person to keep them all engaged. The tour would be worth it if maybe one family shared a telescope and then the amount of time stood around is less. Also it took 20mins to send a moon picture by airdrop to everyone which felt very strange. Surely that could be done at the end or sent to email or by WhatsApp. Or if it’s airdropped for quality the guide needs a helper! Great knowledgable guide but overall wouldn’t recommend

Operator response

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We’re pleased you found the guide friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We’d like to clarify a few points. The stargazing location is not chosen randomly by us. The permitted observation areas are designated by the authorities because Teide National Park is a protected natural area. We must operate within the authorised locations and cannot simply choose a darker or more secluded spot. Our tour is international, and the guide speaks several languages, so information is explained in different languages throughout the experience. We normally have around 30–40 guests and 5 telescopes, meaning fewer than 10 people per telescope, allowing everyone time to observe. The Moon was also very bright that evening, which naturally reduces the visibility of fainter stars. We’re sorry the experience did not meet your expectations, especially compared with your previous experience in Egypt, but we appreciate your positive comments about our guide and his knowledge.
