A small, picturesque town known for its high-quality chestnuts (a local delicacy), traditional merchant houses, and its connection to the famous Edo-period artist Katsushika Hokusai (of "The Great Wave" fame), who spent his final years here.
Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park
Hike to the world-famous park where Japanese Macaques (Snow Monkeys) gather, often seen bathing in a natural hot spring pool, especially during the winter.
Shibu Onsen
A charming, historic onsen (hot spring) town near the monkey park, famous for its traditional wooden inns (ryokan) and stone-paved streets. Stroll the nostalgic streets, see the numerous public bathhouses. The town maintains a very traditional atmosphere.
