Sistine Chapel was great but the tour process was not! I wouldn't encourage booking through this group!
The Sistine Chapel is INCREDIBLE!! It is so much bigger than we ever thought! The tour accommodations were not incredible and very complicated! We were booked for a 530pm tour which changed at the last minute to a 2pm tour time. We were sent 2 different addresses of where to meet. They were miles apart! It stated the cost was going to originally be $24 per person which was perfect since literally all the ticket gets you is in the door but when we confirmed payment it jumped to $161.58 total for 2 people! We were so frustrated with their process at that point we just went with it! We had to call the office to get the correct address and even upon arrival us and all the others were searching for the office. They had several tour groups working out of the same office and scolded the paying ticket people if there weren't with their correct guide but there was no organized check in spot or process! It was a mess and were were happy to just finally get into the Sistine Chapel without waiting but it made me question booking something through Viator in the future because this felt like we were being taken advantage of! We have always previously had success with Viator!

Save yourself money
“Self guided” tour was 3x more expensive than regular tickets to get in. Just plan ahead of time and buy tickets online in the official Vatican website and save yourself $100 Euros. The Vatican itself was wonderful, though.

Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel Tour
It is a bit confusing to know where to meet for the tour. There will be crowds. Our guide got us to the entrance and then left us on our own to explore the Vatican museum

The Vatican and The...
The Vatican and The Sistine Chapel was very crowded at the end of September. We did not expect the heat and the crowds. It was so crowded our tour time was delayed making us miss our afternoon tour of the Lateren Steps

Poor communication
Scheduled a tour for 1:30. The email they sent told us to meet at 3:00pm. Assumed the tour time changed. So missed our experience and money. Customer service was very nice.

Waste of money
€50 charged but tickets only cost €28.
Way too busy and hot with no air conditioning at all.
Massive queue for "Skip the line" tickets.
No explanation of what you are viewing in the museums.
Constantly told to "move along" by security. Barely having time to take a blurry picture.
Sistine Chapel experience ruined by massive crowd with no respect for rules regarding clothing, phones or silence.
We won't be returning to the Vatican museums or booking excursions through trip advisor again.
Operator response
Thank you for your feedback. We are, however, a little surprised by some of the expectations described in your review.
The €50 paid was for the **ticket-only service booked through a tour operator**, not simply the €28 face-value museum admission. The difference covers the booking and tour-operator service, which allows guests to secure their entrance in advance and avoid purchasing directly at the museum.
As clearly stated in the booking, **no guide or commentary was included**. Therefore, expecting a guide to accompany you through the museum and explain the exhibits would unfortunately require booking a guided tour rather than an entrance-ticket service.
As for the crowds, security procedures, clothing rules, mobile-phone restrictions and the temperature, these are all conditions imposed or determined by the Vatican Museums and the high visitor numbers—particularly during the summer season—not by our company.
We nevertheless appreciate your feedback and hope this clarifies the difference between a ticket-only service and a guided tour.

Trip advisor is soaking us
Trip advisor charged us three times the face value of the ticket when we picked it up.
Operator response
Thank you for your feedback. Just to clarify, the amount paid on TripAdvisor is not the face value of the Vatican Museums ticket. You booked a **ticket-only service through a tour operator**, rather than purchasing directly from the museum ticket office.
The additional cost covers the reservation, handling, and service provided by the tour operator. If the expectation was to pay only the museum’s face-value admission price, the most economical option would, of course, be to purchase directly from the Vatican Museums.
We understand that paying for a service beyond the ticket price may come as a surprise, but the price of a tour-operator service is clearly different from the museum's admission fee.

Skip the line ticket Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel
We were super well received at the ticket redemption point and escorted until we were inside, so this went super smoothly! Very friendly host! The Vatican museum is definitely worth a visit, but after a while we noticed a lot of repetition. The Sistine Chapel was beautiful, unfortunately you are not allowed to take pictures here. Remember: as a woman, shoulders and knees must be covered.
