Silfra: Snorkel Between Continents with Drygloves for Warm Hands

An absolutely amazing experience that I won't forget anytime soon! From the very beginning, I felt completely at ease with our guide, Hedinn from Diving Island. His explanations were clear, easy to understand, and very friendly, which made me feel safe and comfortable throughout the entire tour. What I particularly appreciated was that the tour went ahead even though our group consisted of only three participants. That's definitely not something you can take for granted. Top-notch service, thank you very much for that! Snorkeling in the stunning Silfra fissure was truly a one-of-a-kind experience. The underwater visibility is breathtaking, and the feeling of floating between two continents is something very special. The warm dry gloves worked perfectly and made the tour much more comfortable. For me, this is a major advantage over other operators offering similar tours. A huge thank you to Hedinn for this fantastic adventure and his warm hospitality. The hot chocolate at the end was the perfect finishing touch and tasted especially good after the snorkeling experience. Another real highlight was the photography. All pictures were taken with a professional camera, and the difference in quality is clearly noticeable. Even better, the photos were included in the price and were made available the very same evening. I would do this tour again without hesitation and can highly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience in Iceland! 😊

We did both a scuba (the guys) and snorkeling (the ladies) experience at Silfra with Diving Island. Héðinn was a FANTASTIC guide. The absolute BEST!! We had an absolutely blast with a “bucket list” dive and snorkel. The gear was best in class. We would highly recommend Diving Island and the excursion. This is a must do!!!

The Silfra snorkeling between tactonic plates was simply breathtaking. I didn’t feel cold at all in the dry suit with special gloves from our wonderful and knowledgeable tour guide, Hedinn. I highly recommend the tour. It lasts about 30 minutes, which is just the right amount of time. There’s prep ahead of time, to explain the dry suit equipment. What you see is crystal clear water with pretty colors and an underworld of beauty. This tour with Hedinn is a highlight of the trip.

One of the best experiences of our Iceland trip. The dry suit kept us warm and Kevin was knowledgeable about the rift and made sure everyone felt safe and comfortable the whole time. Highly recommend even if you're not an experienced swimmer.

We had a great experience on this tour. The guide was knowledgeable and safety focused. This company is the only one that has the best quality gloves to help keep fingers warm, so that was a bonus. This was an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience (unless we make it back to do it again, which we hope for! ).

Snorkeling between two tectonic plates in Iceland is already the sort of experience that doesn’t need much help being memorable. Having the right guide, though, elevated it into something genuinely special. Our guide was a fantastic human— friendly, knowledgeable, experienced, and clearly someone who still cares about the experience despite having made this swim more than a thousand times himself. He got us started early enough to beat some of the crowds, fitted us with excellent gear, and somehow managed to send us into glacial water while keeping everything beneath our drysuits completely dry. What impressed me most was how much effort he still put into making our trip unique. He took wonderful photos of us, our group, and the landscape both before and after the swim. Even after seeing Silfra a thousand times, he was still capturing fresh photos of the nature and conditions we experienced that particular day so we’d have them to remember and share. That’s a small detail that says a lot about the person guiding you. He even taught us how to actually dive down beneath the surface rather than simply floating through Silfra. I was hilariously terrible at it, but learning how to “deepen” the experience added another dimension to an already surreal place. And Silfra itself is extraordinary. Floating through impossibly clear water between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates is one of those rare tourist experiences that actually lives up to the premise. Afterward we walked back, stripped off the gear, and warmed up over hot cocoa while chatting for a while before going our separate ways. It was a wonderfully human ending to a remarkable experience. If you’re considering snorkeling Silfra, I couldn’t recommend this experience— or our knowledgeable, friendly Icelandic guide— more highly. Absolutely worth doing.

Snorkeling the Silfra fissure is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, made even better by our exceptional guide. Hedinn was charming, warm, incredibly organized, and genuinely joyful about sharing this spectacular place with us. Communication from booking onward was excellent, with exceptionally clear instructions about where to be and when. His pre-snorkel briefing was calm, thorough, and reassuring, so we knew exactly what to expect and could simply relax and enjoy the experience. Silfra itself is absolutely spectacular and not to be missed. Hot chocolate and cookies afterward were a wonderful touch, and he even gave us recommendations for our drive back to Reykjavík, including a fantastic microbrewery we thoroughly enjoyed. Excellent value, exceptional organization, and a truly memorable experience. There are many ways to experience Silfra, but having such an enthusiastic, personable guide really set this excursion apart. Highly recommended!

Shortly before the end of our vacation, we had booked one more special adventure. A snorkeling tour. We chose this provider because, unlike the other tours, it also protects the hands well against the cold, and the other reviews were also consistently positive. It is a bit scary to snorkel in such cold water, especially in a deep gorge on top of that. The guide explained everything to us very well and also gave us assistance during the tour when needed. We felt safe and did not get wet at all, except for our faces, of course. A great, unique experience!!! Thanks to our nice guide. We would book him again anytime!! We received the photos of our adventure via a link that same evening. A very nice memory of this day!!
