Spend your morning by all your senses in the south part of Shanghai's former French Concession where you will try out over 15 local breakfast, such as pan-fried dumplings (sheng jian bao), soup dumplings (xiao long bao), scallion pancake, jianbing and more in some unique Mom and Pop small restaurants or even from hole-in-the-wall street vendors. Meet your local guide near the Xintiandi area at 9am, and start with the taste of the fresh fried pot stickers in the alleyway surrounded by city high rises. Discover Shanghai's breakfast culture by walking through the backyards of traditional stone-gate houses (Shikumeng) which soon will be demolished due to on going urban renewal projects.
You will sample the thin noodles with various topping such as pickled vegetable, shredded pork braised in soy sauce, sweet potatoes with bean curd sauce. Sip a cup of the tea at the traditional tea shop in the local neighborhood.
Your last stop of the tour is at Dahuchun near by the People Square, one of the oldest dumplings restaurant open since 1932. You will taste the curry beef soup covered fresh Chinese parsley, the signature dish here.

Our guide, Timberly, was a friendly and helpful young woman who showed us a side of Shanghai we did not see on You tube. The food we ate was amazing, the coffee delicious, the community gracious, the city history was fascinating, the parks beautiful and the tea ceremony special and intimate. Thanks s was a morning well spent. We had to come home and have a nap afterwards, though!!

Highly recommended! We had a great time walking and eating various food all around the former French Concession. Jim was a terrific guide, made us feel welcome and so knowledgeable. The tour included multiple stops for different Shanghai breakfast specialties (all of which were outstanding) tea and fruit, plus lots of cultural and sightseeing info. Well worth it!

A must-do. A quintessential tour of Shanghainese specialties that you would be remiss to miss. Cannot stress enough how important doing this tour is to enhance your trip to Shanghai. Yu was amazing and so knowledgeable. The food was great and you don't have to worry about eating enough. You'll be taking some home with you. I loved that this tour combined food, history, and beautiful gardens as you walk throughout the city. I highly recommend this tour!

We had a wonderful morning with TJ and Spencer guiding us around the French Concession, eating the most delicious dumplings, noodles, duck and more. We even stopped for a tea ceremony. A great way to start our trip in Shanghai. The dumplings were amazing (better than the ones we’ve had for lunch today at one of the most famous places) and it was great to be supporting small local businesses.
