Battery issues and a little confusing

Company was very helpful and responsive, on some early issues logging in. However, because of other situations my phone battery was pretty low when starting the tour, and this tour EATS the battery life. So my phone died, before the end of the tour. Plus honetly it was kind of hard to follow where to go and my phone kept turning down the volume to save battery I guess so hard to hear. But even still I think it would have been hard to follow on where we were supposed to go. I know the arrow points you the direction, but if hands free how is it supposed to do that. Plus, honestly just was confusing. I think it might have provided so me good information or tour but it was difficult. However, I think if we had a fully charged phone we might have had a more enjoyable experience. Tried to hear the end of the tour once we got back to the hotel and was plugged in for charging. But that is not allowed you have to be at the location to hear the tour. So anyway, well worth the purchase price but for us it did not work out. We also wanted to go in the night and the dark which also made it hard to see where we were supposed to go.

Operator response

HI! We did speak a few times on the phone :). Great note, this tour is powered by an app and uses GPS. Older phones in particular don't do great with GPS and battery. Newer phones do much better. We do suggest powering up before exploring :). Especially if you have an older phone. Also, you can listen again, just chose the "Virtual Tour" option when you start the tour, this is unlocked after taking the on location tour. Thank you for exploring with WalknTours! We have tours in 40 plus cities in the USA!

Ghost Tour During The Day? Why Not!!!

My schedule didn’t allow me to take a ghost tour in the evening but I was very interested in learning the stories anyway. WalknTours to the rescue. I took the tour during the day and it was great. Another bonus of a daytime tour was that the Central Burying Ground is open during daylight hours so I was able to enter (not possible on an evening tour). I actually did the tour back-to-back with the Underground Railroad tour so it made for a fun and educational day around Boston. Another great thing about the tour is you can “relisten” to it after the tour is over. I couldn’t remember one fact that was told at the Athenaeum, so a quick “replay” refreshed my memory. I’ll look for WalknTours in other cities when I travel.

Bring a portable speaker...

Bring a portable speaker would be my recommendation but otherwise a nice time with family. Can be done in daytime and I think would be just as enjoyable but probably louder with the city daytime activity.

Operator response

Thank you for the great review and exploring Boston on the Walkntours App! Great tip, we highly suggest using earbuds, headphones or bluetooth speakers to hear the tour, and for this ghost tour a bluetooth speaker is perfect!

Great tour!

My family had a great time! It wasn’t actually scary for my kids ( which is probably good!) but we had a great time walking around and listening to it. I would recommend doing it before it’s fully dark, because one of the parks we walked through was perfect in the early evening, but at night is actually scary with sketchy people dealing drugs, etc.

Good experience

Sometimes tricky to navigate where they were leading is, but overall well done and interesting info. It was our first self- guided tour and definitely better they trying to entertain ourselves on our own and way cheaper than in person..
