€160 lost for being 2 minutes late – no guide, no flexibility, no assistance
We booked the Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel priority entrance ticket with a host through Headout, operated by Wanderwise.
This was not a guided tour. We paid around €160 for two people mainly for the fast-track / priority-entry service with a host, which made it considerably more expensive than a standard ticket.
Our booking time was 12:15 PM. Because our train was delayed, I tried calling the operator several times and also sent a WhatsApp message at 11:14 AM, almost an hour in advance, explaining that we were on our way. Nobody responded.
Despite the delay, we arrived at the meeting point at 12:17 PM — only two minutes after the scheduled time.
We were simply told that the group had already left and that nothing could be done. Nobody tried to contact the host, check whether we could catch up with the group, or offer any alternative.
I understand that the booking conditions advised guests to arrive early and stated that late arrivals may not be refunded. However, this was not a guided tour where an entire group had to stop and wait for us. It was a hosted priority-entry service, and we were only two minutes late after trying to contact them well in advance.
What I find particularly unacceptable is that they kept the entire €160 despite providing absolutely no service, and no partial cash refund was offered either.
Even a 50% refund would have shown some basic fairness and understanding. Instead, the full amount was retained.
In my opinion, treating a customer this way over a two-minute delay, after ignoring their attempts to communicate, is extremely harsh and frankly felt heartless.
Policies are one thing, but there should also be some common sense and humanity in customer service.
We paid €160, received nothing, and were given no meaningful help at all. I would not book this service again.

Skip the line
Everything went smoothly
It was way too hot on the day that we visited the museums so to be able to skip the line helped us a lot

Total disgrace. We...
Total disgrace. We received the wrong ticket and could not get in. And then we found out that we had been completely ripped off. We paid 70 euros per ticket, even though we could have bought one on-site for 10 euros. Total disgrace! Never again!

Great experience
We booked the night before. The tickets arrived by email in the morning, an hour before our check in time. I would recommend arriving 30 min before check in to be safe. Everything was as I hoped and the Sistine Chapel was absolutely amazing.

Operator response
Dear Valued Guest,
Thank you for your visit to the Vatican Museums. We appreciate your feedback regarding the entry process.
To clarify for future travelers, these are timed entry reservations rather than open tickets.
While this allows you to bypass the much longer ticket-purchase lines, all guests must still enter at their specifically selected time to help manage the flow within the galleries.
We hope you enjoyed the incredible views of Rome and the Sistine Chapel during your visit.
