The lesson begins with dry instruction in the sand and shortly after you will start practicing in the water. Alejandro has over 15 years of experience teaching surf and guarantees that all his students will stand up on the surfboard. Young and old, we make sure everybody has a good time. We include chairs, an umbrella, water, and fruits. The whole family will experience an unforgettable beach day. Make sure to have fun with our boogie boards or keep on practicing with the surfboard once the lesson is over. Alejandro and his team are professionals. From the safety and instructions prior to surfing and the ease at which they had us on the boards was phenomenal! Kids were standing on first try. Safety is never an issue as saw firsthand Alejandro performing lifeguard duty for a regular swimmer who went into distress. If he can save an outsider, imagine what he and his team can do for persons in his group!
We decided to book a surf lesson after watching surfers the night before. We read a few reviews for different companies but Alejandro had the best reviews. We went with our two boys, 8 and 10 years old. Each of us had our own instructor and we were all standing on the board within a few minutes. They were all super kind and not at all intimidating (despite being Costa Rican national team surfers and coach). It felt completely safe and very professional. Rash vests, water and fruit were all included and Alejandro’s sister even took some photos and videos for us on my phone. It was a perfect afternoon.
We signed up our teens for surf lessons and showed up. When we got there I was surprised to find them surfing quickly under one on one instruction. I had avoided taking lessons myself partly because I am 50 and thought I might be too old and partly because I am a cancer survivor with neuropathy in my feet from chemotherapy. I wanted to surf though, so I asked Alejandro about it. He told me he works as the national coach for adaptive surfing and teaches people with more challenging physical conditions than mine how to surf all the time. He will have me surfing in two minutes. I thought that sounds ambitious but I wanted to try. He fulfilled his promise. Within 20 minutes of my lesson he told me “you beat cancer and now you can surf!” It felt great and reminded not to place barriers that I may place on myself. Great lesson. His instructors were also excellent with my teenagers and it was just a great experience. We had the greatest time!!!
Chill relaxed vibe…these guys were awesome…it was our first ever surf lesson and both of us were able to stand up on the board (of course the instructors were helping to balance is on the board) but such a cool experience!! I have larger frame and they easily modified the best way for me to stand up on the board. Also their school on the beach is accessible which is so important. This was absolutely the best way to experience surfing for the first time. The water is relatively shallow and the waves are gentle, but big enough for some good surfing. I tried surfing on my own before this, but could never catch a wave. With the guides help I caught nearly every one I went for. The guides speak good enough English to give good advice ( I do not speak Spanish). My friend and I each got a private instructor who came into the water with us to help guide the board. 10/10 experience.
Talked to them on the beach. Checked the review and decided to do a private lesson with 3 young kids. The guys were all great! No life jackets surprised us but we felt very safe with how much attention everyone got. One instructor pee child. Everyone stood up quickly and the instructors were very kind to the kids. Thanks so much!
alejandro’s surf school has been one of the best parts of my trip so far. roy was my instructor and was so patient and helpful!! alejandro is SO welcoming and friendly and made us feel like family right away. 10/10 absolutely recommend for a great vacation!!!

Had private surfing lessons before but that was not comparable to this lesson. This was really great! My instructor Christopher gave clear explanations, indicated exactly what to do at what time. He had a huge dose of energy with which he pulled me through the surf every time to make sure I was ready for the next wave in exactly the right place. That really made it go great. After the lesson you can also use the bodyboards. Highly recommended!!!

Definitely recommended! This was my first really lame lesson, it was well explained what the intention was and with the help of Alejandro I immediately managed to stand and catch some waves. It was fantastic!
