Itinerary
Visit to the beautiful and historic town of Sintra, a UNESCO world heritage site. Discover the picturesque streets, the Sintra National Palace, the fountains, the churches, chapels and shrines.
Climb to the Moorish Castle where the construction of the first sections of its wall dates from the 8th and 9th century. From the castle, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the whole region. It can’t be missed!
Next you will have the opportunity to taste 2 of Sinta's most famous regional pastries: Queijada de Sintra - a delicacy from the medieval period and the favorite of king Dom Carlos I and Travesseiro de Sintra - a delicious recipe from the 1940s and much appreciated by the inhabitants of Sintra.
The next stop is the Pena Palace where you can admire a mix of architectural styles in the interior as well as in the exterior. The Pena Palace is one of the best examples of Romanticism from the 19th century. Make sure to have your camera ready to capture the fantastic landscape surrounding the Palace.
Next, discover the most westerly point of continental Europe. From the cliff tops, enjoy the fantastic view of the beaches and the sea. From the road near the coast, you can gaze at the beaches and the beautiful towns of Estoril and Cascais.
On the way back, we will have the chance to enjoy this unique beach with its famous dunes. A real sanctuary for surf, windsurf and kitesurf.
And of course we can’t leave without visiting the charming town of Cascais. This former fishing village used to be a royal getaway. Nowadays it still is one of the most attractive destinations for the Portuguese and foreign elite thanks to all that it has to offer: boutiques, restaurants, hotels, beaches and much more.

Jose picked us up right on time at our accommodations. He asked what we wanted to do and we asked him to show us what he loved. It was an amazing day, his knowledge and eagerness to share it was very special. We loved it all and would absolutely use Jose again.
Our guide Jose was the best. We had a fantastic day in Sentra, Azenhas do Mar, and Cascais. The restaurant he recommended for lunch was superb. Highly recommend!
With a really cheerful and positive Jose's Guide, I was able to see Sintra, Penya, Azeneas Du Mar, Cabo da Hoca and Cascais in a day! It was not a Guide to learn through the study, but a Guide to learn by a Portuguese local, so I learned a lot like tips for Trips!! If you don't want to go on a packed tour, you just want to go where you want to go, or if you want to stay anywhere longer, it was better to fit everything!! Obrigado Jose!
It was exactly the tour we wanted with a number of added locations and landscapes. All with great views and fascinating history! Highly recommend.
We enjoyed our private full day tour with Jose Ribeiro. He was easy going, has a great sense of humor and provided us a history through out the entire drive from and back. We had plenty of time to take pictures and leisure time. Lunch was delicious and the portions were very generous. I definitely recommend this private tour with Jose. My Mom was happy with this day trip. Today's was a good day.
Fabulous day spent. Mesmerizing views and an entertaining companion in guide/driver. Very well planned.
The Palace of Pena...it’s a must...The guide Miguel was particularly incredible, it was a tour greater than our expectations! He knew a lot about the history of the area and allowed us to live wonderful moments that we will never forget!
I’m surprised Lisbon on Wheels is not the #1 tour provider in Lisbon. I expected a great day but our experience exceeded every one of my expectations and this was easily my favorite day of our 3 day stay in Lisbon. If you are on the fence about booking a tour, trip, etc. with them, do yourself a favor and book it this second requesting José as your guide. We have been lucky enough to have done similar day tours around the world and never have I come across a guide as knowledgeable, down to earth, caring, funny, helpful and personable as José. We had a hard stop at 4pm to get our COVID tests to get back into the US and José made sure we got to visit every spot on the agenda (and more) before dropping us off at the front door of the pharamacy with 10 minutes to spare. He waited outside for us, made sure everything went smoothly, and then took us to one of his favorite spots overlooking all of the city. I could go on and on about how great this day was and how amazing of a human José is, but I implore you to book a day for yourself - you will not be disappointed.
We did the day trip to Sintra. Booking was easy and the communication from Nuno and Filipa was prompt and clear. The car was very comfortable. The highlight of the tour was Jose, our driver and guide. He was friendly, informative, took photos for us, and never rushed us at any spot. We managed to do all we wanted to do (Regalaira, Pena palace, Moosrish castle, Sintra downtown, Caba da Roca, Boca de inferno, and Cascais), though we did exceed time and paid extra as agreed upon before with Lisbon on Wheels. At every sight Jose gave us an overview about what to do, and this saved us a lot of time. We even managed to do the hike to Crux Alto. All in all, a great trip to Sintra thanks to Lisbon on Wheels and Jose.
When met by our driver, we were told that we could not visit all the places we had requested, which was not a good start. However as the morning went on, our driver relented and we cut down time a the Moors Castle and over lunch in order to make time for the coastal part of the tour. With this the tour was Great covering Sintra and along the coast. Beware, what is on offer is not always possible in the 8 hours assigned, mainly due to spending some 90 - 120 minutes for lunch.
