Comfortable and relaxing way to visit the ruins at Delphi

My children (ages 15 and 12) and I are visiting Athens for 8 days and took this full day trip to Delphi to visit the temple of Apollo and the Delphi Archeological Museum, and we all enjoyed the experience immensely. The sites of Delphi are of course amazing and well worth a visit, but we especially chatting with our driver/guide, Ruslan, who has great knowledge of Greece and its history. Not only did he give us a helpful synopsis of the last 4000 years of Greek civilization, but he answered all of our burning questions about Athens, Delphi and Greece during our drive, and pointed out interesting things along the way. This is not a guided tour of the archeological sites of Delphi themselves, but rather a private drive to the sites. We don’t usually do tours, but it made sense for us rather than renting a car that we really only needed for the one day, as the rest of our trip was spent roaming Athens by foot. It was not cheap, but what a treat to skip the big group tours, or hassle of limited public transport schedules, and be picked up at our apartment bright and early and dropped off again after a day of exploring. Because we were able to choose our departure time, we beat the crowds to the site and enjoyed a quieter visit, despite it being a free Sunday and overall very busy that day. We also stopped in Arachova on the way home, which is a very picturesque town, though totally packed that day. Overall, this was a great trip and well worth it for a very comfortable and relaxing visit to an amazing historical site.

Think twice before going on this trip

We were super disappointed in this trip. The car we were in was a taxi with very little leg room. The driver gave us a few facts here and there, but nothing really about Delphi. He dropped us off at an entrance that required me to walk a half mile to get tickets. The driver played AC/DC the entire trip. For the cost of the trip, it was a real bummer.

Operator response

Thank you for your review. Please allow us to clarify a few points: the vehicle used for your trip was a Mercedes E-Class, which in Europe is considered a luxury car and among the most comfortable in its category. Regarding the historical details, our driver did provide them throughout the journey – it may be that you missed some of them since, as we noticed, you were resting for most of the way to and from Delphi. Perhaps the music bothered you more because it woke you up. As for the site entrance, you were dropped off at the official entrance. To visit the archaeological site, some walking is required – unfortunately, the ancient Greeks did not install an elevator, as they could not have imagined modern-day visitors. We hope you still enjoyed the beauty of Delphi and thank you again for choosing us.

Greece tour

We took the trip and it was excellent! Giannis was a great driver and even taught me some Greek along the way. Despite the traffic and length of trip, the time passed with lots of fun. Also, the traditional Greek restaurant was a great experience- well worth the money!
