Description

Pompeii deserves more than a rushed, impersonal group tour. This private experience is led by a nationally licensed archaeological guide who studied archaeology and history, worked for years in Pompeii, and still considers this extraordinary place a passion before a profession. Instead of following a crowded group without interaction, you can ask questions, stop where something interests you, and explore at your own pace. The itinerary is adapted to you, not the other way around. With Pompeii skip-the-line tickets arranged in advance, your time is dedicated to the experience. Discover the real Pompeii through its homes, temples, baths, streets, frescoes, mosaics, plaster casts, newly opened areas, recent excavations and latest discoveries. More importantly, you will understand the people who lived here, their daily lives, beliefs and final moments. This is not simply a walk among ruins. It is a journey through history, guided by knowledge, passion and genuine human connection.

“Pompeii revealed” is not a standard tour — it’s the way Pompeii is meant to be experienced. If you’re looking for a deeper, more meaningful experience of Pompeii, you’re in the right place. With me, Pompeii is not a collection of ruins — it’s a living city. I am a licensed guide specialized in archaeology and Roman history, and my approach is very clear: no generic explanations, no crowded stops — only a carefully designed experience that allows you to truly understand the city. Alongside the iconic highlights, I will also take you into some of the newly excavated and recently opened areas (when available), where ongoing discoveries are still changing what we know about Pompeii. This is what makes the experience different: you’re not just visiting the past — you’re seeing a site that is still evolving today. The tour also includes skip-the-line entrance tickets, so you can access the site smoothly without wasting time in queues.

Excellent tour!

My dad and I had a great private tour with Mario! He is incredibly knowledgeable about Pompeii. We went to many great spots, giving us a picture of how life in Pompeii was before and also explaining a lot about the excavation process and how it has evolved over time. He swept us quickly into crowded areas and found shade whenever possible, which we really appreciated. Highly recommend!

Operator response

Dear Kelly, thank you so much for this wonderful review. It was a real pleasure guiding you and your dad through Pompeii. I am especially happy that you appreciated not only the monuments and the stories of daily life, but also the archaeological side of the site — how the excavations developed, how methods changed over time, and how what we understand about Pompeii today is the result of centuries of discovery, interpretation, and research. As a licensed national tour guide and archaeology graduate, I always try to show that Pompeii is not simply a frozen city. It is also an active archaeological laboratory, where every street, house, fresco, and object can tell us something new about the people who lived there. I’m also glad you noticed the practical side of the visit. Knowing how to move through the site, when to enter the busier areas, where to find shade, and how to use the available time efficiently can make a huge difference, especially during crowded or warm days. A private tour should never feel like standing in the sun listening to a lecture. It should be dynamic, comfortable, personal, and adapted to the people in front of you. Thank you again for your trust and your recommendation. I’m very happy that you and your dad had such a great experience together. Amazing Pompeii- a must see!

Rosa Marie was an excellent guide! She brought to life the ingenious people who built and lived in this city some 3,000 years ago. From their clever streets, aqueducts, saunas, meat markets, homes, even ancient ‘GPS’ signs carved into the stones, to their tragic demise. An incredible experience. Thank you, Rosa Marie!

Operator response

Dear Susan, thank you so much for this wonderful review. We are delighted that Rosa Marie helped make Pompeii such a memorable experience for you. She is an excellent licensed guide, and one of her greatest strengths is exactly what you described: helping visitors understand not just the ruins, but the intelligence, daily life, and humanity of the people who once lived there. Pompeii becomes much more powerful when the streets, baths, markets, homes, water systems, and even the small carved signs start to make sense as part of a living city rather than isolated archaeological remains. We are especially happy that you felt the people of Pompeii were brought back to life through the tour. That is always the goal of a great guide: to connect the archaeology with the human story behind it. Thank you again for choosing us and for recognizing Rosa Marie’s knowledge and ability to make the site so vivid and engaging. We will make sure she sees your kind words. Mario made Pompeii come...

Mario made Pompeii come alive for us. He was the perfect guide-passionate about Pompeii, extremely knowledgeable, courteous and attentive. As he talked it was easy to imagine these ancient streets bustling with activities of the time. He showed us the fresco where he did work as an archeological student. I would recommend him to all who are looking for a top notch private tour of Pompeii.

Operator response

Dear Paul, Thank you so much for these wonderful words. Reading that I made Pompeii “come alive” for you is one of the greatest compliments I could receive, because that is exactly what I try to do on every tour. Pompeii is extraordinary not simply because of what survived, but because of the people we can still imagine behind every street, house, shop, bath, fresco, and inscription. My goal is always to help guests move beyond the ruins and begin to picture the city as it once was: noisy, crowded, colorful, and full of everyday life. I’m especially happy that you mentioned the fresco connected to my own archaeological training. Being able to show guests a place where I personally worked as an archaeology student creates a connection that is very special to me. It reminds me how much this site has shaped both my studies and my professional life. As a licensed national tour guide and archaeology graduate, historical accuracy is fundamental, but I also believe that knowledge has to be communicated with passion, clarity, and attention to the people in front of you. A private tour should feel engaging and personal, never like a memorized lecture. Thank you again for your trust, your recommendation, and for describing the experience so generously. It was a real pleasure guiding you through Pompeii. Best Amalfi coast experience

Excellent tour. Our driver Diego was so knowledgeable and gave us advice based on what was important to us. He customized our tour allowing us to visit each stop at the best times of day. And we had a great lunch based on his recommendation overlooking Sorrento . Our private tour guide Giovanna was amazing as well. Very knowledgeable about the ruins. She was very friendly and shared quite a bit of sites .

Operator response

Dear Lisa, thank you so much for this wonderful review. We are very happy that Diego was able to shape the day around what mattered most to you. That is exactly how a private experience should work: not forcing guests into a fixed itinerary, but using local knowledge to decide the best order, timing, and stops based on their interests and the conditions of the day. Diego is a certified tour leader, not simply a driver. He knows the territory, the roads, the traffic patterns, the viewpoints, the local culture, and the places where guests can enjoy a more authentic experience. The fact that he was able to customize the timing of each stop and recommend a memorable lunch overlooking Sorrento is a perfect example of that. We are equally delighted that you enjoyed Pompeii with Giovanna. She is a licensed guide with a strong archaeological background and a real talent for helping guests understand what they are seeing. Pompeii is enormous, so a knowledgeable private guide can make all the difference by selecting the right areas, explaining the details that would otherwise be missed, and turning the ruins into a coherent story. What we especially appreciate in your review is that both parts of the day worked together so well. For us, that coordination is essential. As a small local family-run company, we personally connect the transportation, timing, restaurant suggestions, and archaeological guiding so the day feels like one complete experience rather than a series of separate services. Thank you again for choosing us and for recognizing Diego and Giovanna’s professionalism, knowledge, and personal attention. We are very happy that your day became such a memorable Amalfi Coast and Pompeii experience. Incredible Tour with Mario

We had Mario as our Guide for the Pompeii Tour and he was truly amzing. We booked within a week before the Tour. Mario was in contact with us befor the tour to ensure that the arrival and meeting point was easy. We would highly recommend him to anyone wanting to get a thorough understanding of Pompeii and it's history. We had teens with us and they enjoyed the tour as well. Thank you Mario for your incredible service.

Operator response

Thank you so much for this wonderful review and for choosing me for your Pompeii experience. I’m very happy that, even with the tour booked only a week in advance, everything felt easy and well organized from the beginning. Clear communication before the visit is extremely important to me because guests should arrive at Pompeii already knowing exactly where to go and what to expect, without unnecessary stress or confusion. It was a real pleasure guiding you through the site and helping you build a deeper understanding of Pompeii and its history. As a licensed national tour guide and archaeology graduate, I always try to go beyond the basic facts and explain not only what happened, but how the city worked, how people lived, and why the details we still see today are so important. I’m especially pleased that the teenagers enjoyed the tour as well. Keeping younger visitors engaged requires a different rhythm, different examples, and a more conversational style. Pompeii has everything needed to fascinate them—daily life, graffiti, food, politics, entertainment, architecture, and plenty of surprising stories—if it is presented in the right way. A private tour should never feel like a standardized lecture. It should adapt to the group, the questions, the interests, and the energy of the people taking part. Thank you again for your trust, your recommendation, and your kind words about my service. I’m very glad I could make Pompeii both informative and enjoyable for the entire family. Best Way To Pompeii!

We had a fantastic experience! We booked directly through Diego after a friend recommended him and shared his contact. He scheduled us with Mario for our tour that took place just a few days after booking. He was prompt to pick us up from the cruise port, gave us an incredible tour that we all loved (ages 8, 14 and adults)! Even though it was HOT, we took breaks in the shade and got to see all the highlights of Pompeii and even some cool little hidden spots. Thanks for an experience we will never forget!

Operator response

Thank you so much for this wonderful review! It was a real pleasure meeting your family and sharing Pompeii with all of you. Having an 8-year-old, a teenager and adults enjoying the same archaeological tour is probably one of the best compliments a guide can receive! My goal is always to adapt the experience to the people in front of me, rather than simply following the same standard itinerary for everyone. And yes... it was HOT! *August is definitely one of the hottest and most challenging months to visit Pompeii*, especially during the middle of the day. The good news for future travelers is that during most of the rest of the year, temperatures are much more comfortable for exploring the archaeological site. But even in August, knowing Pompeii extremely well makes a big difference: knowing when to slow down, where to find some shade, how to manage the route efficiently, and where to add those little hidden corners that most visitors simply walk past. I’m so happy that you were still able to experience the highlights without turning the visit into an endurance test! I also love that everything started with a recommendation from a friend. Diego and I have worked together for many years, and our philosophy has always been very simple: take care of every guest personally, from the first message and organization to the actual day of the experience. We are a small local team, and that personal connection is something we never want to lose. Thank you for trusting Diego’s organization and for allowing me to introduce your family to this extraordinary ancient city. Knowing that you left Pompeii with memories you will never forget is exactly why we love doing this job. I hope this was only your first adventure with us in Southern Italy! Unique experience

We booked a private guided tour of Pompeii directly with Mario, including skip-the-line tickets, and we were fully satisfied. The organization was impeccable: Mario provided us with all the necessary information in advance and met us directly at the entrance to the excavations. Thanks to the tickets already purchased, we entered quickly without wasting time in line. Choosing a private tour proved to be very important, because Mario was able to adapt the route to our interests and dedicate all the necessary time to explanations and our questions. Pompeii is a huge and complex site and, without an expert guide, it would have been difficult to orient ourselves and fully understand what we were observing. Mario is an extremely knowledgeable, passionate, and engaging archaeological guide. He does not limit himself to listing dates and information, but manages to recount the daily life of the ancient inhabitants, explaining the houses, streets, shops, baths, temples, and public buildings in a clear and fascinating way. Thanks to his explanations, we had the feeling of seeing Pompeii come back to life before our eyes. He was always kind, patient, and helpful, answering all our questions with competence. A truly interesting and well-organized visit, which we highly recommend to anyone who wishes to discover Pompeii in an authentic and in-depth way.

We met Mario directly at the entrance of the excavations for our private archaeological tour of Pompeii. The skip-the-line tickets were already organized, so we entered without stress and were able to dedicate all our time to the visit. Pompeii is immense and can be difficult to understand without a truly prepared guide. Mario, on the other hand, built an intelligent and engaging route for us, choosing places and details that we would never have noticed on our own. He also showed us some of the most recent areas and discoveries, explaining to us not only what we were observing, but also how archaeologists work, how excavations are carried out, and how history is reconstructed starting from the traces preserved in the ground. What struck us most was his ability to bring the city back to life. Through the houses, streets, shops, inscriptions, and objects of daily life, we were able to imagine the people who lived in Pompeii almost two thousand years ago. It no longer felt like walking among simple ruins, but inside a city still capable of telling its own stories. Mario possesses evident archaeological training, but he also knows how to communicate even the most complex topics in a clear, pleasant, and passionate way. He answered all our questions without ever giving us standard or rushed explanations and adapted the visit to our interests and our pace. The private nature of the tour made a huge difference: no large groups to follow and no impersonal visit. We had a guide completely dedicated to us and the feeling that every explanation had been chosen specifically to make our experience special. If you only want to see Pompeii, you can certainly visit it on your own. But if you want to understand it, discover its secrets, and feel it come back to life, we absolutely recommend doing it with Mario. It was one of the most beautiful and engaging cultural experiences of our trip to Italy.
