Insightful fun tour of Treme, Storyville.

It was a very insightful, fun tour of these neighborhoods, more about how these neighborhoods evolved to create not only the history of New Orleans but the sense and persona of New Orleans.

Thorough and thoughtful history walking tour.

I was in town on business and went on the walking tour of Storyvile/Treme with Historic New Orleans Tours on my afternoon off. It was a small group, with just 3 of us and our guide David, who grew up in NOLA. (David has an impressive breadth and depth of knowledge about the city's architecture, history, and social dynamics. This company has brief professional bios of the tour guides on staff and it's clear they put thought into the folks they hire for this job!) He talked not only about stories of the past, but also how history has shaped these neighborhoods in the present. This tour was also careful not to sensationalize elements of history, because the stories are interesting enough on their own right! The most compelling stop on the tour was the tomb of the unknown slave, at St. Augustine Churchyard, but other highlights included Congo Square and the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, as well as a peek at the St. Louis No. 1 cemetery, which requires a different tour to enter. Having a small group enhanced the experience, because we were able to ask a bunch of questions and also get recommendations about places we could return to after the tour. David also stayed for a couple of minutes after the tour ended to answer our questions and give recommendations for other places we can visit. Thanks for a fascinating and informative two hours! I will definitely book tours with this company on future vists to New Orleans and would recommend it to friends too.

Mr. Higgins was very...

Mr. Higgins was very nice. I wish we would have gotten a chance to see everything during the tour but he touched on some of the other things on the way to lil dizzy’s. I really appreciated that he walked us over and the conversation there was my favorite part of the experience.

Historical truth-telling

I'd previously done a Garden District walking tour in New Orleans and had a good experience. This time I was looking for something a little edgier and off the beaten path. Nate was our guide for this tour. He's somewhat of a local institution as he's grown up in the Treme area and possesses firsthand knowledge of the subject matter. Our group was small and very personal. Nate has a reputation for not embellishing history. Some of my personal highlights included the architecture of Treme, the myth .v. reality of Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau, Congo Square and its significance to African Americans and Louis Armstrong Park.
