The tour had almost 30 people so it was noisy, very crowded, other groups walking past nearby made it even harder to hear the guide, the best part was visiting the underground caverns and long lost Roman theatre.
Our tour started a bit late and it was difficult to hear the guide with a large group. The second part of the tour with theatre felt like an add-on in small pieces. The pizza option was inconvenient because we arrived at the restaurant just before their afternoon closure.
The tour was good but couldn't do the whole thing as we had it booked for 4pm and didn't start till 4.15pm and ran out of time to do the hour 20min tour, as we had to get back to cruise ship. It was a good 20min walk from terminal.
Walking down all of the steps deep under ground is overwhelming but well worth it. It opens up into tremendous sized rooms. Walking the thin path is another must. Beautiful pools and large rooms await. Guides are extremely knowledgeable. It’s a must see marvel!
It's cool down there - between 12 and 16 degrees so prepare for that. It's quite busy, so you can often overhear other group whilst trying to listen to your guide. Our guide walked very fast, so if you can't walk quickly for about 40 minutes with breaks, then do tell them.
This was a super cool tour!! We loved hearing about the long history of the underground and more about Naples!
Worthwhile experience. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and kept our group together. A must do tour.
Good little tour. Be forewarned some parts won’t work for anyone who is mildly (or very) claustrophobic. Also there are ~150 steps down and then back up. This was all fine for us but I can imagine it might not work for some!
Experience to be done with a local and competent guide
I was one of about 30 people on the tour. The guide was very personable and knowledgeable, and he made the tour entertaining with interesting stories and a bit of humor. Physically, this could be a challenge for some folks, as you must traverse lot of stairs to descend 40 meters underground to see 2000 year old chambers and tunnels. When hot outside, this was a great escape to the cool underground, but you get to come back up to see the last part of the tour, which includes the excavated portions of a large Roman amphitheater.
