La Traviata is a three-act opera composed by Giuseppe Verdi on an Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. It was first performed on March 6th, 1853 at La Fenice opera house in Venice. Verdi insisted on finding an original and provocative idea for the audience in Venice, and decided to base his work on La dame aux Camélias (1852), a play adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas (fils). The piece was originally titled Violetta, after the protagonist. This famous opera remains among the most performed masterpieces of the entire lyric tradition. Opera e Lirica soloists, from the most important Italian theaters and Music Academies, will perform this breathtaking story accompanied by choir and orchestra conducted by Maestro Elvin Dhimitri. The audience will enjoy an extraordinary and memorable experience, surrounded by the fascinating atmosphere of St. Paul within the Walls Church.

barely worth the price

At the entrance, there is a CD, but that was all the positive aspects. The ventilation creates background noise. It is unclear why it is not ventilated during the day. The concert performance is interesting, but it is also unclear why one does not choose Tosca in a church in Rome. The singers are vocally average, and the articulation is poor - and this is not due to the acoustics, as the articulation was perfect during Haydn's Creation at the same location. For those who have never been to the opera, this is a nice introduction. Those who regularly attend the opera should think it over carefully.....

Very poor quality!

The instrumentation with piano and individual solo instruments does not work. The grand piano was poorly tuned, and the intonation of the instruments was incorrect. The choral sections all fell apart in terms of tempo. No staging, no content design, no program booklet. Definitely visit another concert or an opera at the opera house to have a real experience!

Great experience.

A lovely experience. The combination of opera and ballet was special, but the two arts worked well together. The church was a good place to have the opera, fantastic acoustics and beautiful background. However, the benches were hard to sit on for 2 1/2 hours.

Nice location but...

Nice location but unfortunately very hot and the men singing wasn’t good. Seems more like tourist trap than higher class opera

Poor Verdi

Lovely place and we know it. Wonderful opera and very well known to everyone, but was the experimental setting of the Slovak director with dancers dressed as freddy Mercury and semi-naked Violetta necessary? Poor Verdi. Not to mention Alfredo who took various cues. Excellent orchestra and magnificent choir. But even the choir director, Visco, who typically enters the scene for the greeting was careful not to show up at the end. Not to mention the tacky set design. Really not worth it..Caracalla deserves better
