Kyoto Traditional Kintsugi Workshop in Gion Gold Repair Art

Description
Experience the traditional Japanese art of Kintsugi in a quiet workshop near Gion and Kawaramachi in Kyoto. In this hands-on experience, you will repair cracked or chipped ceramic pieces using lacquer and gold powder, transforming broken pottery into something beautiful and unique. With guidance from an experienced instructor, you will carefully work on bowls or plates while learning the basic techniques of Kintsugi. Rather than hiding imperfections, this traditional method celebrates them as part of an object’s history and character. During the workshop, you will also learn about the history of Kintsugi and the Japanese philosophy that values imperfection and mindfulness. Your finished piece will become a one-of-a-kind souvenir and a meaningful reminder of your time in Kyoto, offering a calm and authentic introduction to Japanese culture.

This is such a fun and unique experience with such a beautiful message behind it. I loved doing this activity together and we’ll be able to talk about the meaning continually. Emma was SO patient and helpful with each one of us and we required so much. She is awesome!
Great time. Fun to learn. Great product
This was so much fun! It was a great opportunity to learn more about a beautiful Japanese art form and make a special souvenir to take home. Jessie was lovely and our family - parents and two teenagers - all enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend, especially if you need a break from walking around Kyoto.
That is so good . The teacher is very nice
Very good experience, I would like to try again next time.
Very easy to learn and such a fun souvenir to bring home
It was a wonderful experience with an incredible result. I would recommend 100%. Our instructor, Alex, was very helpful and patient with us. It's an amazing souvenir with a lot of meaning.
We had such a lovely experience at the kintsugi workshop! The instructor explained the history and philosophy behind kintsugi in a very interesting and accessible way, and guided us patiently through every step of the process. It was a wonderful hands-on experience and a great way to learn more about Japanese culture. We really enjoyed creating our own pieces and having something unique to take home as a memory of our time in Japan. Highly recommended if you’re looking for an authentic, creative and memorable experience!
It was super fun and I love the result
We booked through Airbnb and got a £40 voucher but the prices were similar through other vendors. We enjoyed the experience as a family of 5. There are add ons if you want to upgrade the piece that you decorate. They were inclusive for our 2yo to join in. We had a small issue finding the workshop but communication was very swift.
