Mari was fabulous, such a caring and gentle woman. We had a great and memorable experience
Mari was an exceptional host and I would recommend to anyone even considering trying the tea ceremony. It is a wonderful experience!
We had an amazing experience at Maikoya, Nishiki. I booked a private tea ceremony (kimono rental included) with photography for our family of three. I absolutely loved the kimono dressing process. You choose from a wide selection of robes, belts, and hair accessories and then the stylists transform you within 10-15 minutes; two stylists beautifully wrap you into the kimono and belt and another styles your hair. When I reunited with my husband and son in the main room, we were all smiles showing off the kimonos we selected. Emi was our excellent host. She provided an informative and interactive tea ceremony experience. Normally only the host prepares the tea, but she taught us how to whisk our own matcha in the hot water. We also learned the custom of how to properly turn our bowls to drink our tea. Emi also expertly coached us into the most beautiful poses during our photoshoot in the inner garden. We had the pleasure of having Akira as our photographer. He was thoughtful, patient, and also guided us with our poses. In addition to the photos in the gardens, I appreciated that he was taking photos of us during the tea ceremony so that I could focus on the ceremony itself (although I did take a few shots with my phone). I’m looking forward to receiving his photos in about a week. He showed us some of the shots he took on his camera display and they were amazing. After the tea ceremony and photoshoot, we made the short walk to Nishiki market with our kimonos on. It was a lovely stroll through the market place and so much fun to take photos among the stalls. I give this experience an enthusiastic A+. Highly recommend.
