Your adventure begins at Gullfoss Café, next to the iconic Gullfoss Waterfall—one of Iceland’s most breathtaking natural landmarks. This powerful two-tiered waterfall plunges 32 meters (105 feet) into a rugged canyon and serves as the perfect backdrop to start your glacier journey. Meet your guides at the Mountaineers of Iceland sign in the parking lot, where you’ll board a specially modified Super Truck for the ride into the highlands.
From Gullfoss, your Super Truck journey takes you deep into Iceland’s rugged interior, toward the Geldingafell mountain area. The ride lasts 35–60 minutes, depending on road and weather conditions, and offers stunning views of volcanic landscapes and snow-covered plains. This off-road trek is part of the adventure, an exciting preview of the glacier experience ahead.
At the Langjökull Glacier base camp, you'll gear up with warm snowsuits, helmets, gloves, and boots before receiving a full safety briefing and snowmobile instructions. Once you're ready, hop on your snowmobile and begin a thrilling one-hour ride across Iceland’s second-largest glacier. Depending on visibility and weather, you’ll stop for photos and take in views of icy plateaus and volcanic peaks. The highlight of the tour is a visit to a naturally formed ice cave, recently discovered and made safely accessible with a custom-built entrance. Step into a mesmerizing world of blue crystal ice and unique formations shaped over centuries by glacial forces. After exploring the cave, you'll return by snowmobile to the base camp, then ride back through the highlands to Gullfoss.

Thor was a great tour guide he was funny, friendly, and knowledgeable. Overall experience was also super fun!! Highly recommend!!!
In itself a nice tour, and of course it is very special to ride a snowmobile and stand on top of a glacier. The view there is very nice. The ice cave was unfortunately skipped with us. For a 4 hour tour, where you are actually back in the parking lot after 3.5 hours, and most of it consists of the way there in a bus with dirty windows so you could barely see outside (45 min there/45 min back) and change in base camp, we found the time on the glacier itself very limited. Especially the 10 min stop at the top to take pictures, could have been a bit longer as far as we were concerned.
What an amazing experience!! Easy to find at gulfoss waterfall parking lot - about 1 hour ride to place where you grab your gear - suit - mittens and helmet Beautiful day out on the glacier!! Thank you for so much fun!!
Thank you so much for the fantastic review! We are thrilled to hear you had such an amazing experience out on the glacier with us. It is wonderful to know that our meeting point at the Gullfoss waterfall parking lot was convenient for you, and that you enjoyed the scenic ride up to gear up. We always want to make sure you are warm, safe, and fully prepared with the right suits, mittens, and helmets before heading out. We were truly blessed with beautiful weather for your trip! Thank you again for choosing to adventure with us, and we hope to welcome you back for more fun in the future! Safe travels!
Good fun up on glacier. Cave part not open (usual apparently??) so do not book and pay for that part. Non involving guides, but still a great experience.
Thank you for taking the time to share your review. We are glad to hear that you had good fun up on the glacier and that you still found it to be a great experience overall! We do want to sincerely apologize for the disappointment regarding the cave portion of your tour. Ice caves are natural, dynamic structures that are highly subject to weather conditions and safety assessments. If a cave is determined to be unsafe due to flooding or structural changes, we must unfortunately close access immediately to protect our guests. However, we completely agree that this should always be communicated clearly beforehand, and we are reviewing our booking and communication processes to ensure guests are not left feeling misled. We also appreciate your feedback regarding our guides. We strive to provide highly engaging and interactive experiences, so we will use your note as a coaching opportunity for our team to ensure we are connecting better with our groups on the ice.Thank you again for your valuable feedback, and we wish you all the best on your future travels.
Amazing experience from start to finish! Everything was very well organized. The snowmobile activity was amazing! A big thank you to Thor, who was very friendly and explained everything clearly throughout the excursion. The view of the glacier as well as the ice cave were absolutely stunning and fascinating. The scenery is definitely worth seeing! I highly recommend this activity!
Hello Camille, Thank you so much for the amazing review! We are thrilled to hear that your experience was seamless from start to finish. It is wonderful that you enjoyed the breathtaking views of the glacier and the ice cave—it truly is a magical landscape. We will be sure to pass your special thanks along to Thor; he will be delighted to hear that his guidance and friendly approach made your excursion so memorable. Thank you for highly recommending us, and we hope to welcome you back for another adventure in the future! Best regards, Einar Mountaineers
great experience! If you’ve never snowmobiled before, it’s a bit intense for a rookie. I quickly learned I wasn’t cut out to drive solo so ditched my snowmobile and rode on the back of our guides and still got to enjoy the views. Raymond was awesome!!!
Hello Kelly Thank you so much for the fantastic review! We are so glad you had a great experience, even if driving solo felt a bit intense at first. Knowing your limits is a big part of staying safe, and we love that you made the switch so you could fully relax and enjoy those stunning glacier views! Raymond is absolutely awesome, and we are so proud of his quick thinking and care for our guests. We will be sure to pass your kind words along to him. We hope to welcome you back for another ride on the back of the sled anytime! Best regards, Einar Mountaineers
There was no ice cave. We were charged extra for an experience we didn't get. We should have been charged for the regular snowmobiling tour. The other guests said the same thing.
Hello Kelly Thank you for sharing your feedback. We apologize for your disappointment regarding the ice cave portion of your tour. Due to the unpredictable nature of glaciers and sudden changes in weather, we sometimes have to cancel the ice cave segment on short notice to ensure the safety of our guests. In these circumstances, our policy is to issue a partial refund to cover the cost difference. We want to ensure this was processed correctly for you, so please contact our customer support team directly with your booking details so we can assist you immediately. Best regards, Einar Mountaineers
Had a great time with Edgar. Tour was awesome
Our guide was fantastic! The walk to the caves took about 15 minutes. The cave in the pictures is no longer open (closed in December 2025), but they showed us others.
Hello Lori Thank you so much for the review! We’re thrilled to hear that you had a fantastic time with your guide and enjoyed the trek out to the caves. While nature is constantly changing—meaning some specific caves do have to close for safety or seasonal shifts—we are so glad our team was able to show you some equally stunning alternatives. We truly appreciate your flexibility and your kind words! We hope to see you on another adventure soon. Best regards, Einar Mountaineers
I packed a lot of unnecessary clothing for my trip to Iceland. They provided a very warm snow suit, helmet, gloves and boot covers. Half of what I packed was unnecessary for this adventure.
Thank you for your helpful feedback! We're so glad the provided gear—a warm snow suit, helmet, gloves, and boot covers—kept you comfortable and meant you could leave half your packed clothes behind. That's exactly why we supply top-quality equipment for the glacier conditions! It saves space in your luggage and lets you focus on the adventure. Thanks for sharing this tip—it helps future travelers pack smarter. We'd love to welcome you back for more Icelandic thrills anytime! Best regards, The Mountaineers of Iceland Team
