On a rocky hill that is difficult to access, on the banks of the River Darro, protected by mountains and surrounded by woods, among the oldest quarters in the city, the Alhambra rises up like an imposing castle with reddish tones in its ramparts that prevent the outside world from seeing the delicate beauty they enclose. Originally designed as a military area, the Alhambra became the residence of royalty and of the court of Granada in the middle of the thirteenth century, after the establishment of the Nasrid kingdom and the construction of the first palace, by the founder king Mohammed ibn Yusuf ben Nasr, better known as Alhamar. The fortress became a citadel with high ramparts and defensive towers, which house two main areas: the military area, or Alcazaba, the barracks of the royal guard, and the medina or court city, the location of the famous Nasrid Palaces and the remains of the houses of noblemen and plebeians who lived there.
The Generalife is composed of a series of large gardens, where every corner holds a novelty and a pleasant surprise for the eyes, with a minimum of obtrusive buildings.
The Alcazaba plainly served a military function. The entrance to the Alcazaba was at the foot of the Tower of Homage . At the base of the tower is a slight slope. A simple L-shaped walkway keeps the main gate from being seen from the outside.
The habitual residence of the kings of Granada, their construction began at the beginning of the 14th century. The Nasrid Palaces are a palatial complex formed by three buildings: - The Mexuar is the oldest hall. It was employed for meetings between the ministers of the king and as a courtroom. - Next, we come to the Palace of Comares, which dates back to the era of Yusuf I. This dwelling was erected around the Patio de los Arrayanes (Courtyard of the Myrtles), and its side exits lead to the Sala de los Embajadores (Hall of Ambassadors) and the Sala de la Barca (Hall of the Boat). - The Palace of the Lions, dating back to the era of Muhammed V, is also a royal residence. It is composed of a central courtyard, the Courtyard of the Lions, and halls along each side, the Hall of the Mocarabes, the Hall of the Kings, the Hall of the Two Sisters, the Hall of the Ajimeces, leading on to the mirador Daraxa viewpoint, and the Hall of the Abencerrajes, along with the Harem

The Alhambra is all they say and more. Lots of history, magnificent palaces and such relaxing gardens. I would recommend it visit to anyone.
Ticket office staff very helpful. Alhambra routes easy to follow . Only problem was constantly having to show tickets and ID. Alhambra itself us spectaculor and worth visiting. Not easy if you cant climb steps though. Buy a ticket for the Nasrid Palace as that is the highlight.
Thank you for your kind words! Yes, the Alhambra is a spectacular monument. And precisely for that reason—to ensure it remains so—the control measures can seem a bit strict. In any case, we hope that didn't spoil your visit and that you would be willing to return to the city. If you do, we encourage you to put your trust in us again! Best regards!
Ticket pick up was reasonably easy to find although having a taxi made a difference. Staff were extremely helpful with site map and suggestions regarding use of time.
Thank you for your review and for your kind words about our staff. Kind regards
The information for the ticket and audio guide pickup point should be at the beginning of the voucher or in the confirmation email, since nowadays we read almost everything on a phone. It was not easy to find the ticket redemption point; the worst part is that an "information" person at the Alhambra had no idea and was going to send us to buy other tickets. Luckily, a security person was more informed than everyone else and very kindly pointed out where it was. Otherwise, I thought it was a good option; since it is an application, you do it at your own pace and listen to it as many times as you want.
Gracias por su reseña Lamentablemente la información incorrecta que le proporcionó el personal del monumento es algo que escapa a nuestro control. Nos alegra que sintiera la libertad de ir a su aire con la opción de la audioguía. Saludos Cordiales
Our guided tour of the Alhambra was absolutely outstanding, largely thanks to our brilliant guide, Carlos. His knowledge was incredible, he seemed to know every detail about every corner, room and section of the palace and its grounds. Carlos brought the history of the Alhambra to life through fascinating stories and detailed explanations. His knowledge extended far beyond the palace itself, giving us a much deeper understanding of Granada and its rich history. If you are considering booking this tour, do not hesitate. Ask for Carlos if possible, you will leave with an in-depth understanding and genuine appreciation of both the Alhambra and Granada. Highly recommended!
Thank you for your review. Your wonderful words about Carlos perfectly capture who he is: a dedicated expert on every corner of the Alhambra. It’s clear from your review that the experience met your expectations. Best regards
A must-visit place if you are passing through the Granada region. Paid parking at a price that is not exorbitant (€11.50 for 4 hours). If you wish to eat when leaving the site, the Carmen restaurant is a good recommendation. The daily menu is priced at €16.50, it is located right in front of the site exit, on the other side of the road, the entrance is a bit hidden, you can access it through the souvenir shop entrance (stairs). Small tip: visit the site as soon as it opens because there are fewer people and above all it is less hot!
Nous partageons entièrement votre avis, l'Alhambra est un monument incourtounable. Pendant l'été, Il est préférable de le visiter dès le matin.
Best audioguide of all the places I've visited in Spain so far.
Thank you so much for your kind comment about our audioguide. Your feedback helps us to keep improving. Kind regards, The Granavisión team
I liked the easy access and self-pacing. I expect a personal guide would have provided more color, but this provided a good overview of the facts and history of the site.
Thank you for your kind comment. Each type of tour has its own unique features. We’re delighted that you were able to enjoy the beautiful Alhambra and all its charms at your own pace. We look forward to seeing you again in Granada! Kind regards, The Granavisión team
The Map was not easy to read. Some of the tracks were closed. The price we paid was higher than it would be if we paid at the entrance directly. But still we enjoyed it very much. It is a lot to walk and good shoes are a must. As we were there it was 40 degrees but lots of possibilities to get water, even water fountains are on the path through the Alhambra. Overall a great experience for everyone.
Thank you very much for your review! We’re sorry to hear about the inconvenience you experienced during your visit; some areas or paths within the Alhambra may be closed or altered due to restoration work taking place within the monument. Nevertheless, we’re sorry for the inconvenience and hope to see you again soon!
Your partner or provider granavision was a scam! It was charging a lot for things and services we could not use unless you paid more!
Good afternoon, we’re sorry to hear that you feel this way about our services. It would be helpful if you could explain what you mean by being asked to pay more. Our staff would never ask you to pay for something that is already included in your booking. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.
