Palacio de Las Duenas

Description

The Palacio de Las Dueñas, the current residence of the Casa de Alba in Seville, was built in the 15th century, and is historically one of the most important monuments in the city. The building itself, which includes Gothic-Mudejar and Renaissance styles, has impressive architectural interest, such as its various gardens and patios with a magical charm. In addition to a wonderful collection of paintings, sculptures, tapestries and furniture, it also treasures many family memories, as it is still inhabited, making this Palace a unique and different place to visit. Among the most important characters that visit it are: Americo Vespuccio, Marconi, Lord Holland, Cole Porter, Arthur Rubinstein, the Empress Eugenia de Montijo, the kings Alfonso XIII and Victoria Eugenia, Jackie Kennedy, the princes of Monaco, among many others. Birthplace of the poet Antonio Machado. Includes audio guide or App in Spanish, English, French, German and Italian.

Wonderful

We purchased tickets at the door and not the audio guide, preferring to just go around at our own pace and direction. There was not a queue. The palace is wonderful, plenty to look at and the garden areas are very relaxing. We enjoyed it more than Real Alcazar, probably because It was less busy - still very spectacular. I would highly recommend visiting whilst in Seville.

Disappointed

A shame, everything very poorly maintained. The gardens are dirty, plants unwatered and unpruned. If you want to charge an entrance fee, you have to offer maintenance so that it is nice and you leave happy with your visit

Stunning place with a wealth of history

An absolute must! A little-known palace hidden away near Las Setas. The palace was built between 15th and 16th century, is set in stunning grounds and well-maintained gardens and courtyards, with a wealth of history. To fully explore and appreciate the many rooms of the palace and grounds, allow around 1 1/2-2 hours. It is well worth a visit and worth the €15 per head, but recommend a Monday visit when it is free of charge.

The place is beautiful, but the customer service leaves a lot to be desired

The visit to the Palacio de las Dueñas was marred by the terrible attitude of the staff. Today, July 14, at 10:00 am, in the Cayetana exhibition area, I interacted with the girl in charge of looking after that section (a young woman with straight hair). We were talking and he asked me where I was from; I replied that I was from Madrid. At that moment, he made an obvious gesture of disbelief, apparently judging my appearance or accent with total arrogance. I had to clarify to him that, if he was asking about my origin, I was a foreigner. Although I have the patience to tolerate this type of scrutiny, another person could feel deeply offended. When a worker is dealing with the public, their personal judgments are unnecessary, since this treatment is easily interpreted as prejudice or xenophobia. It is a shame that a monument of this category has staff with so little tact for assisting visitors. I hope they take measures or retrain their staff.

A living jewel of Seville that exists through time.

The Palacio de las Dueñas is one of the few visitable examples of still-lived Sevillian noble architecture. It is not a reconstruction or a staged setting; it is a real place, with centuries of history accumulated in every stone. An essential visit not only to understand Seville but also to understand Spain.

Worth the visit!

A must-visit while in Seville! Tucked away in the heart of the city, Palacio de Dueñas is a beautiful and peaceful escape from the busy streets. The gardens are stunning, filled with flowers and orange trees, and the palace offers a fascinating insight into the history of the Alba family. What I loved most was how relaxed it felt – despite being so central, it never seemed overcrowded, making it easy to take your time and enjoy the surroundings. A beautiful spot that’s definitely worth adding to your Seville itinerary.

wondrrful gardens, fascinating history

This is a beautiful palace with a fascinating history, from Peter the Cruel and Ibn al Khatun, through the w9nderful poer Antonio Machado, who was born here, to the present incunbenrs, the Fiyz James Stewart family, eith their cobracts to British royalty I wasn't interested in rhe Gayatana exhibition. Mostly I loved the amazing gardens, cool and peaceful, modelled on Islamic gardens such as the Generalife in Granada.

I would not recommend the visit

For us it is not a walk that is worth it. On our visit (June 2026), we only had access to the bottom floor and the gardens. The audio guide described mainly details of the family's private life, which we were little interested in. The gardens are beautiful, but nothing necessary of a visit. The exhibition objects seem somewhat random, the tapestries, flooring and some other parts of the architecture deserve restoration. I would not recommend the visit.

Beautiful palace

The Palace of Las Dueñas is a magnificent home. A visit to discover Seville. The building with its mudéjar-renaissance architecture with its patio, its gardens with many plants. Favourite residence of Duchess Cayetana de Alba where there are personal archives including her collection of Art. Audioguide available for free but be careful to download on your smartphone.

Worth the visit

It is an interesting visit, especially for those who already know Seville. It is an interesting place and part of the history of Spain. Just to remember Machado’s verse is already worth it, but being able to know a palace that is part of the Casa de Alba is very interesting

Operator response
