Gettysburg’s Seminary Ridge: Self-Guided Walking Audio Tour
Itinerary
2 min
You’re standing in the Lutheran Theological Seminary’s campus. Long before it became the site of some of Gettysburg’s most heated clashes, it had a much more peaceful purpose as the oldest Lutheran seminary in the country. Samuel Simon Schmucker founded it in 1826, which makes it older than prestigious universities like NYU or Cornell!
Note: The tour is over 1 miles long, with more than 20 audio stories, and takes about 0.5-1 hours to complete..
Your password can be used on the same number of devices as the travelers you have booked. Please enter the same password on each device.
New, Lifetime access, no expiry. Use it anytime, on any trip, as many times as you want.
5 min
See that big brick house on the corner to your right? The one with the gray roof and white accents. That’s the home of Samuel Simon Schmucker, founder of the seminary here at Gettysburg.
5 min
You’re walking past Valentine Hall, and it’s a striking reminder that the Battle Of Gettysburg did NOT spell the end of the seminary. Why not? Well, because this hall didn’t appear until 25 years AFTER the battle!
Seminary Ridge Museum and Education Center
Admission not included2 min
Today, this impressive brick building is the Seminary Ridge Museum and Education Center, which features Civil War exhibits, fascinating wartime accounts, and visits to the cupola on top.

Good
We took the audio tour and really enjoyed it. The pacing was up to us, and the stories made Day 1 of Gettysburg click. A couple of prompts were a touch late, but the map kept us on track.
Operator response

Thanks for mentioning the slight delay with a few prompts — I’ll pass that along to my team to fine-tune the timing. It’s great to hear the map helped you stay on track while exploring at your own pace. I’d love for you to try my Ultimate Gettysburg Battlefield Audio Tours, which include Ghosts of the Battlefield, Devil’s Den, and the Gettysburg Battlefield tour all in one bundle. Happy exploring!

GPS Tour
The Seminary Ridge audio tour is perfect for a quick walk. The app uses GPS, so the stories start automatically as you walk—you don’t have to keep looking at your phone. It covers the basics around the Seminary and battlefield sites in about 30 minutes. We also did Devil’s Den, which was easy and informative. These tours are convenient and affordable, giving a good overview without hiring a guide, though the historical details are light.
Operator response

Civil War - Siloam - Gettysburg
The American Civil War was the military conflict that lasted from 1861 to 1865 between the southern states that had seceded from the United States and joined the Confederacy, and the northern states that remained in the Union. The Battle of Shiloh, also known as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing, was a major battle that took place from April 6 to 7, 1862.
We drove around the extensive grounds, visited the cemetery, the chapel and various monuments. 6,000 dead and 30,000 wounded!
Operator response
Thank you for sharing your experience, Robert. However, it seems your review might be more related to the overall battlefield visit than the specific Self-Guided Walking Audio Tour of Seminary Ridge I offer. This tour focuses on the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg, specifically around Seminary Ridge. If you ever decide to return or explore other Civil War battlefields, my Self-Guided Walking Audio Tours might offer you an even deeper understanding of these historical events. Safe travels on your future journeys!

Couldn’t access the tour
Extremely difficult to access. We tried Viator.com for help; after many tries, they said to contact TripAdvisor. Waste of time, waste of money. We could not access the tour we paid for. So,
no tour for us. Will never deal with this company again.
Operator response
Thank you for letting us know about this issue. We want to clarify that we are not Viator or TripAdvisor, so I don't have direct access to your booking information. To better help you access the tour, please get in touch with our customer service team directly.

Don't book through Trip Advisor
We booked and paid for admission through Trip Advisor. When we presented our pass at the admissions desk, we were told our Trip Advisor pass was not valid and would not be accepted.
We traveled 8 hours round trip to see Gettysburg and were not going to leave without the full experience. We were forced to pay another $60 admission and told to deal with Trip Advisor on our own.
Very unsatisfying for a visitor to have this experience at a national treasure.
Operator response
This is review is meant for the museum (we are not the museum; we’re a walking tour).

Tour worked well with younger grandchildren
This stop was on my bucket list. Had younger grandchildren with, and this tour worked well. The adults were satisfied and grandkids were able to run off some energy.
