Itinerary

Admission included

Enter an opulent era at Gallier Historic House and marvel at the Victorian furnishings and decor within this architectural gem. Completed in 1860, Gallier House was designed by famed Crescent City architect, James Gallier, Jr. As a family home, Gallier House showcases several engineering innovations, such as indoor plumbing with hot and cold running water and a double skylight. Using the original household inventory as a guide, period decorative arts reflect the Galliers’ refined taste. This comfortable lifestyle was made possible through the work of enslaved people, and later domestic servants, whose work and lives are also interpreted on tours.

Breathtaking!

My visit to the Gallier House was an incredible experience from start to finish. I accidentally arrived early after confusing my tour time, and the staff were so gracious in accommodating me, which I truly appreciated. The tour guide was phenomenal. Their knowledge of the home's history was remarkable, and they thoughtfully shared both the beautiful and difficult parts of its past in a way that encouraged honest conversation while treating sensitive topics with the respect they deserve. The preservation of the Gallier House is simply beyond words. Walking through the home truly feels like stepping back in time. And for fans of Interview with the Vampire, it's an especially memorable stop, the iconic Paris green gate is instantly recognizable and makes the visit even more special. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an architecture lover, or an Anne Rice fan, the Gallier House is a must-see in New Orleans.

Very interesting tour

We enjoyed our time and tour and apologize for asking too many questions but guide was very patient and answered every question to the best of his ability. Wonderful way to spend a quieter morning in the Quarter. Would definitely recommend

Better than expected.

Have to say, this was far better and more interesting than I expected. Most of the time, you go to these museums and you become part of the walking dead because the information is so dry. For the Gallier House, our tour guide was very good and patient with me asking a gazillion questions, tying in the ‘Interview with The Vampire’ movie and show filmed here, along with explaining the history of not just who lived there, but how they lived in a nice house in the French Quarter. The tour is an hour, which is enough time to get you through the place and see/hear what it is all about. Definitely recommend if you are interested in late 19th century New Orleans.

A must see if you are interested in historic homes!

I found this tour to be so fascinating. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of our male guide, but he was FANTASTIC! He was so knowledgeable about the property and readily answered any questions that were asked. The house, itself, was in great condition, considering it was finished in 1860. I learned so many things and enjoyed hearing the stories of what the family/servants needed to do to transition the house during the seasons and also what they needed to do to keep cool. I appreciated that he also talked about the enslaved workers that had to be there and the insight that he gave about what they would have been expected to do.

Perfect tour, loved the historical objects in the rooms

This was one of our absolute favorite things we did in New Orleans. Katie, our guide, was keen and enthusiastic about the house and answered all of our questions with a high degree of expertise. The fact that the house was furnished was really important to us, lots to look at and learn about. The urban slave discussion was impactful as well. A really wonderful tour for us and we are grateful that historical nature of this place has been carefully preserved with artifacts and historical decor.

Great tour and experience

The guide was knowledgable and the tour was very informative. I particularly liked the bathroom, something not common in a house of this age.

Take this tour!

Judith was so informative and we greatly enjoyed both the Gallier house tour and the hermann grima tour! Looking forward to returning for their hearth cooking.

Good tour

I visited when the house was dressed in mourning which was neat to see. The tour was very informative and there's a lot of standing so keep that in mind.
