Itinerary
Torbogen Luzern
5 min
The archway, originally part of the Lucerne train station built in 1896, was the only element to survive a devastating fire in 1971. Today, it stands as a protected landmark and a symbol of transience and change in Lucerne's cityscape. The inscription "Sic transit gloria mundi" reminds us of the impermanence of human achievements.
Jesuit Church Lucerne
10 min
Built between 1666 and 1677, the Jesuit Church is Switzerland's first major Baroque church. Constructed by the Jesuits during the Counter-Reformation, it aimed to strengthen the Catholic faith in the region. This magnificent structure remains a prominent example of Baroque sacred architecture and a defining feature of Lucerne’s cityscape.
Spreuer Bridge
10 min
The Spreuer Bridge, built in 1408, is one of Lucerne’s historic wooden bridges. Originally part of the city’s fortifications, it allowed the disposal of chaff ("Spreu") into the river. Adorned with 67 17th-century paintings depicting the "Dance of Death," it serves as a rare example of medieval art and architecture, showcasing Lucerne's rich history.
Luzern Altstadt
20 min
The Old Town of Lucerne is a well-preserved medieval center characterized by its charming squares, frescoed buildings, and narrow alleys. With landmarks like the Chapel Bridge and the Musegg Wall, it reflects the city’s rich history and serves as a vibrant hub of culture, shopping, and dining, blending tradition with modernity.
Lion Monument
15 min
The Lion Monument, carved in 1821, commemorates the Swiss Guards who died during the French Revolution in 1792. Depicting a dying lion, it symbolizes bravery and sacrifice. Mark Twain described it as "the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world," making it a poignant landmark in Lucerne’s history.
15 min
The Chapel Bridge, built in 1333, is Lucerne’s iconic wooden bridge and one of the oldest in Europe. It features 17th-century triangular paintings depicting the city’s history. Though partially destroyed by fire in 1993, it was restored and remains a symbol of Lucerne’s heritage and resilience.

A great tour! Highly recommend!
Benjamin is a true gem of a guide in Lucerne. He is enthusiastic, personable, knowledgeable, and eager to answer questions. It felt like a friend showing us his favorite city. I would highly recommend him to anyone. We learned so much in a short period of time and got a real feeling for the spirit of this beautiful place.

Jeremy was a great guide....
Jeremy was a great guide. I happened to be the only one signed up for this day. It was great getting to know some of the history of the city plus getting to know my way around it so I could continue on my own once the tour was done.
Operator response
Glad to hear you had a great time on the tour and thank you so much for the lovely review. It truly means a lot!
I do have to smile a little though… your guide’s name was actually Benjamin, but Jeremy sounds like a cool guy too :) Happy you enjoyed the experience either way.

A hidden gem
I was unsure at first because there weren’t many reviews, but I’m glad I joined! The tour was well organized and very interesting. It’s a great way to explore Lucerne and learn about its history.
Walking through the city with a knowledgeable guide gave a whole new perspective – much better than just wandering around alone. I definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Lucerne.

Surprisingly insightful and very well done
I normally don’t write Tripadvisor reviews (who has the time?), but this tour deserves it.
At first, I was a bit skeptical since the tour is quite new, but our guide Benjamin made it an incredibly pleasant and engaging experience. I’ve been to Lucerne several times and thought I knew the city well, but I was surprised by how much I learned through the historical context he provided.
A great mix of storytelling, history, and local insight. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to discover a deeper side of Lucerne!

Make sure the tour operator knows your booking is confirmed.
I really wanted this tour to be worth the money we paid, but the tour guide knew very little about the area—even without his binder, which he didn’t have with him. Granted, I booked the tour several hours in advance, he must not have checked his email or text and it wasn’t until I called him that he knew we were waiting for him at the meeting point. As luck would have it, he was actually very near by so it started only 10 min later than scheduled. Not worth the money we paid, but since the charge was transacted at the time of the booking we gave it a go.
Operator response
Thank you for your feedback.
We’re sorry to hear that the tour did not fully meet your expectations. Due to a technical issue, your booking was unfortunately not displayed correctly, which led to a short delay. Once contact was established, the tour was able to begin at 3:04 PM – just four minutes later than planned.
We would also like to clarify that our guide is a trained expert in architecture and urban planning and has lived in Lucerne his entire life. He brings deep knowledge of the city’s history and culture to each tour and is always happy to answer questions from guests.
We regret that the circumstances at the start may have impacted your overall impression, and we thank you again for your input.
Best regards
