We weren’t sure if this was a good thing for us to attend - we are a couple in our 60’s. But the stampede is great fun- family friendly and a good mix of entertainment and education. Sure there is crap food available, and water is $5cad - but you can bring your own onto site. We did the thrill package, staying at the fairmont, it was walking distance and a typical day is 20,000 steps.
The highlight of our trip fantastic 2 days of watching the skilled ladies and gentlemen competitors undertaking barrel racing, bull riding, tie down roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc, bareback relay racing, break away roping, chuck wagon racing, kids holding on and trying to get on the shetland ponies backs and the stunt riders. The fun fair was vast, the eateries too numerous to mention.Shopping for cowboy gear to stands with lottery prizes to be won to agricultural tents, vehicles to buy . The live music at the coca cola stand and nashville tent brill.Pow wow dancers and the stampede band really good. Enjoyed the sky rides which allowed you great views of the venue. The Grandstand show awesome with live singers and dancers, acrobatics, fire performers, pole artist, motorcylce stunt team to the finale that firework display the best show we have ever seen mind blowing so much entertainment fantastic.
The Stampede was all we'd hoped for and more. Everyone was helpful and friendly; we had no problems finding where we needed to go. The Stampede itself was amazing; both day and evening shows were memorable.
It was abit hard to understand where to pick up the tickets at the Will Call Centre, but once we figured that out, it was amazing. The staff was able to direct us to where we needed to go any time we needed help. We did the 2 day thrill package for an afternoon event and the evening show both on the same day, but it would be more enjoyable doing the afternoon on 1 day, and the evening show on the next night. Having them on a seperate day would give you more chance to relax, and enjoy everything alot more. We were exhausted doing both on the same day. Thanks to Pam, ( a staff member who helped me make sure everything went just right for our family), we were able to honor our mom on her 1st b'day in heaven by going to the 1 place she always wish she could have gone to! ❤️. The fireworks were spectacular! Thank you Calgary Stapede for all you do.
The ticket agents were not ready to scan our vouchers and didn’t know what to do or where we should go to get our package, etc. But it was the first day and they just opened so I will give them a pass. Hopefully they will be better organized next year.
We really wanted to see this and it did not disappoint, an awesome spectacle of bravery and horsemanship that was a thrill to watch, all the events where exhilarating, the highlight for me was the Bull riding in the afternoon and the Chuckwagons in the evening. If you book evening tickets make sure you hang around after for the Grandstand Show, this is a spectacular stage show and firework display that finishes the day off and is well worth the late finish.
This place is the biggest scam. Went to see a free concert in the grounds so paid the admission then they had sold the whole concert out with VIP rush tickets.. we waited in the crazy line and some lady with a megaphone who was on a power trip decided to come up and shove me,(photo below) completely unacceptable and unprofessional. I wouldn’t have paid to get in to the grounds if I knew the concert was sold out and they treat guest like that.. SCAM
What a great way to spend the day. There were so many things to do and see. Lots of great food and things to purchased.
This is the Calgary event of the year where everyone lets their hair down and becomes a cowboy/cowgirl for a day or two. Generally speaking the weather is excellent at this time of year, so staying hydrated is important. Don't miss the nightly fireworks display as it is absolutely stunning!
