Itinerary

Four Knocks
120 min

The Four Knocks Neolithic passage tomb site is located near Naul in County Meath. The site, dating back to around 3000 BCE, consists of a mound with a cruciform chamber. Named for the Irish “Cnoc,” meaning hill, Four Knocks is notable for its ancient art and archaeological significance. Although no documented battle occurred here, the site reflects the social and spiritual life of Neolithic people in Ireland, offering insight into early burial and ritual practices. Note: Travel time from your hotel is included in the time spent on this attraction.

Dowth Passage Tomb
60 min

Set in the historic heart of County Meath’s Boyne Valley, Dowth stands as a powerful testament to Ireland’s ancient origins. Built more than 5,000 years ago, this remarkable Neolithic site features a sprawling mound that conceals two separate passage chambers. What truly sets Dowth apart is its breathtaking collection of megalithic art: intricate spirals, concentric circles, zigzags, and rare cup-and-ring motifs carved directly into its ancient stone faces. Archaeologists have uncovered human remains and sacred artifacts within its depths, shedding light on the complex ritual customs of early farming societies. Today, Dowth remains one of Ireland's most captivating monuments, keeping the artistic legacy of the ancient past alive.

Monasterboice Monastic Site
120 min

Located in County Louth, this is an early Christian monastic site founded in the late 5th century by St. Buithe, a disciple of St. Patrick. The site thrived as a center of religion and learning until the establishment of nearby Mellifont Abbey in 1142. Monasterboice is renowned for its impressive high crosses, including Muiredach’s High Cross, considered one of the finest examples of Celtic stone carving in Ireland. The site also features a round tower, which once served as a refuge during Viking raids. Today, Monasterboice stands as an important archaeological and historical monument, attracting many visitors. PS: Travel time back to your hotel is included in the time spent on this attraction

Captivating private tour with sweetheart of a guide

Owen was everything you could ask for in a guide: knowledgeable, warm, charming, communicative, completely reliable and punctual. He lives in the Boyne valley region and knows it fully. A delightful person to spend a day with. The Neolithic sites give a deeper view of Ireland’s early past and we are so glad we went.

A Grand Day Out with Owen

We did the Boyne Valley tour with Owen and it was just brilliant. We advised Owen in advance of some mobility limitations, and the itinerary was seamlessly adjusted to ensure that we had the best experience possible within those limits. The Newgrange Day Tours website also includes a great deal of useful information about accessibility at various sites, and this is clearly something Owen pays deep attention to. This level of understanding and flexibility is rare. Owen is charming, personable, and extremely knowledgeable about the history and stories of the fascinating places we visited. We finished the day much better informed about Irish history, ancient, medieval and modern, and felt more like friends than customers. Private touring, by its nature is expensive. But the experience Owen offers is unique, tailored to your needs, and highly professional. That makes it priceless.

Adventures with Owen

Owen is an absolute treasure. He was prompt, courteous, friendly, knowledgeable, and has a great sense of humor. He made the trip so fun and interesting. His car was not only clean, but extremely comfortable for our adventure. He even provided water for us—for which we were very grateful after our tours. He went above and beyond to accommodate our every need. We (my husband, sister, and I) will definitely recommend his services to family and friends traveling in Dublin
