Embark on a private luxury tour with Newgrange Day Tours to explore Ireland’s ancient wonders: the passage tombs at Newgrange and Knowth, plus the Hill of Slane and Monasterboice Monastic Site. Travel in comfort in a luxury car while a knowledgeable guide shares fascinating stories, history, and local legends. Begin at Newgrange and Knowth, UNESCO World Heritage Sites over 5,000 years old—older than Stonehenge and the Pyramids—and uncover the Neolithic people who engineered these remarkable tombs. Continue to the Hill of Slane, where St. Patrick lit the Paschal Fire, marking the dawn of Christianity in Ireland. Conclude with a visit to the Monasterboice Monastic Site, famed for its soaring high crosses, including Muiredach’s, a masterpiece of Celtic artistry, before going back in comfort to your hotel.
Newgrange is one of the most important Neolithic sites in the entire world. It was build over 5,000 years ago and predates the Great Pyramids of Giza and Stonehenge. This is your chance to explore the passageway and inner burial chamber of Newgrange and view the largest collection of megalithic art within Europe. Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre also offers interactive exhibits, detailed models, and information displays about the Neolithic period in history and explains the significance of these prehistoric monuments. Note: Travel time from your pick up location is included in the time spent on this attraction.
Knowth is a prehistoric site renowned for its Neolithic passage tombs. Located in the Brú na Bóinne complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Knowth dates back over 5,000 years. It features a large central mound surrounded by 18 smaller satellite mounds. The main mound contains two passage tombs adorned with intricate megalithic art, including spirals, circles, and other symbolic carvings. These engravings make Knowth a key site for studying ancient European art and culture. Excavations have revealed evidence of continuous use, reflecting its significance through history. Today, it remains a vital link to Ireland’s ancient past.
Located in County Meath, this is a site of profound historical and spiritual significance. According to legend, it was here that St. Patrick lit the Paschal Fire in 433 AD, defying the pagan king at Tara and marking the dawn of Christianity in Ireland. The hill features the ruins of a Franciscan monastery and a 16th-century church, offering a glimpse into Ireland’s rich ecclesiastical past. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Boyne Valley from its summit. The Hill of Slane is a must-visit destination, blending history, legend, and natural beauty in one remarkable setting.
Located in County Louth, this is an early Christian monastic site founded in the late 5th century by St. Buithe, a disciple of St. Patrick. The site thrived as a center of religion and learning until the establishment of nearby Mellifont Abbey in 1142. Monasterboice is renowned for its impressive high crosses, including Muiredach’s High Cross, considered one of the finest examples of Celtic stone carving in Ireland. The site also features a round tower, which once served as a refuge during Viking raids. Today, Monasterboice stands as an important archaeological and historical monument, attracting many visitors.

If you are in Dublin, set aside a day to do the private tour of Newgrange & Boyne Valley - an UNESCO designated Neolithic site. Owen was an excellent tour guide and safe driver. Five stars!
If looking for a friendly, humorous, and respectful guide, then Owen Mullan is the guy to help you understand the history and significance of the Boyne Valley. Our little group of three got the answer to all our questions. Highly recommended.
Wonderful day trip from Dublin. Booked directly with Boyne Vally Tours. Our driver Owen picked us promptly at 8 and drove us to the Bru na Boinne visitor experience. He provided clear explanation of what to expect. The tour from the center was fantastic. How often do you get to enter a passage tomb built in 3200 BCE. Visiting both Newgrange and Knowth exceeded all expectations. Do not miss it. After the tour Owen met us and answered questions while we ate lunch and we planned the rest of the day. We chose a visit to the Hill of Shane and Monasterboice. Owen provided excellent commentary and was extremely knowledgeable besides being very friendly and affable. This tour was a highlight. There were just the two of us so we spent more per person but for us it was well worth it. Highly recommend and ask for Owen
Our guide, Owen, is in a class by himself. I have had guides in my travels for 40 years . Many have been excellent but Owen stands out. He is so interesting to talk with, smart, and knowledgeable
Owen was a fantastic guide and wealth of information on Ireland and its people. From the moment of pickup from our hotel to our tours to recommendations on the BEST steak place in Dublin, we enjoyed Owen as our guide. Very comfortable car and we felt very safe driving with Owen. Highly recommend the New Grange tour!
We were picked up very warmly by Owen and drove with him to Newgrange. During the car ride, Owen already told us a lot about Ireland. It was super informative and fun at the same time. In Newgrange itself, there were separate guides. We were totally thrilled with the great organization and were impressed by the monument. Afterward, Owen picked us up again and we also took a look at the Hill of Tara and the Hill of Slane. Here, too, Owen gave us a super tour.
Owen is a great and friendly guid who took us to some impressive sites that we will not be forgetting. In addition to Newgrange, we visited the Hill of Slane and Monasterboice Monastic Site which are two sites that we would not have known about or gotten to on our own. Owen also answered questions we have about Irish history and daily life. Fantastic experience and well worth the booking!
Our family loved our visit to this world heritage site with Owen of Newgrange Tours. It was an amazing experience to visit one of the oldest human building sites in the world (older than the Pyramids!) So easy to access from Dublin. Newgrange Tours made everything easy — including buying the hard to get tickets ahead so we didn’t have to worry about securing (you can only buy 30 days ahead and they sell out immediately). Our guide, Owen was lovely - the best of Irish hospitality. He also has a beautiful touring car that was well appointed and very luxurious and comfortable. We also really enjoyed Owen’s insights and historical knowledge that he shared on the easy one hour drive from Dublin and back. We learned so much from Owen and the tours! Don’t miss this if you are in the Dublin area.
This was the best experience we had during our entire visit to Ireland. Owen is an expert tour guide and conversationalist; we found ourselves learning more about Irish history and culture than we could've imagined. The tour itself is so well thought out and planned, that you have a full day of experiences without ever feeling rushed or over-scheduled. I recommend this tour (and Owen specifically), with full confidence that you will have a wonderful time.
Objective: A full day exploring the Boyne Valley with a fun and extremely knowledgeable local guide in a private car. Subjective: Never a dull moment! Thank you Owen for making this trip so memorable! You are the epitome of Irish hospitality! We had a blast and learned so much! 😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀😇🍀
