An authentic and human experience.

I really enjoyed this visit. I had difficulty finding the meeting point and the team contacted me on WhatsApp then took the time to come and pick me up, which I really appreciated. The market visit was very interesting, varied and above all authentic: fish market, fruit stalls, fruit tasting and exchanges with the merchants. This really allows you to discover another facet of Cartagena and local life. There were only two of us participants with our guide, which made the experience much more pleasant and personalized. We are far from large group tours: the guide really had time for us and we felt accompanied and considered throughout the tour. The meal was also a very good surprise. We ate well and I notably tasted crab with shark, an original combination and a new discovery for me. A very special mention for Jesús, our guide. Extremely kind, attentive, and friendly. Beyond his qualities as a guide, I really appreciated his sincerity and his human side. A very beautiful encounter. I recommend this experience without hesitation to those who want to discover a more authentic Cartagena, far from the classic tourist circuits.

Raw and Authentic: Experiencing the Real Cartagena at Bazurto

If you want to experience a completely different side of Cartagena beyond the colorful walls and rooftop bars, this Bazurto Market tour is absolutely worth it. My guide, Jesus, brought the market to life with a wealth of knowledge about the history of Bazurto, the realities faced by vendors, and the role the market plays in the everyday life of Cartagena. Some of the highlights included sampling fresh local fruits, receiving a personal art piece by the famous Runner, and enjoying an incredible lunch at Cecilia’s Restaurant served by her son. What made the experience especially memorable were the conversations with vendors throughout the market. Bazurto is raw in every sense of the word — the energy, the sounds, the heat, and yes, even the smells — but that’s exactly what makes it unforgettable. This was a side of Cartagena I’m truly glad I got to see, smell, and experience firsthand. Highly recommended for travelers looking for something authentic, cultural, and eye-opening.

Local Culture Immersion!

Alvaro was the same guide I had for the City Tour a couple of days back. This time we went to Bazurto Market and went on the Transcaribe bus. I loved that I was able to experience an unfiltered local Cartagena life through the colmenares, the wet market, the kitchen side of Bazurto. Alvaro shares so much knowledge about local Cartagena life and made sure I have some of Sr. Runner’s work and a sample of Cartagena champeta to get to know this very unique sound. Got to try out fresh fruits: lulo, maracuya, grandillas, tamarillo and very sweet pineapples! Thanks again Alvaro!

Bazurto market

My wife and I had a great experience with this tour. Our guide was Daniela from Discover Cartagena. Daniela did a great job on educating us on the culture, the food and history of the market. She's very patient and knows what she's doing. I highly recommend this tour.

Alvaro is the best!

The visit we made with Alvaro was sensational. He was a fantastic guide, with the best energy, a constant smile, very complete information, good rhythm, and we were lucky enough to have us try different fruits in different stands, added to the great surprise of seeing how they made us a personalized artistic poster. For me, a good guide is a person capable of transforming a good experience into something you will remember forever, and with great affection. Few really manage to generate that. Alvaro is one of those people.

Authentic experience

We visited the Bazurto market today with Daniela and Daniel. We wanted an experience off the beaten track. That's exactly what we're going to experience. A reflection of the daily life of the inhabitants, much closer to reality than the mega tourist part of the historic center. We take full eyes, full ears, full nostrils rout it in joy and good humor. Go if you are looking for an authentic experience. Christine and Laurent

Market visit

Did not enjoy this visit . I felt bad walking thru the market as a bunch of gringos and not giving the opportunity to purchase anything . I did not appreciate the artist we visited and the lunch was not great . We had beer at 11am with music . I would have appreciated seeing the best things to buy and having the opportunity to purchase something . It was not my vibe at all! The tour guide Jesus was ok , too much standing around by the music guy and the artist

Operator response

Hola Debbie, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear that this experience was not aligned with your expectations. This tour is designed as a cultural immersion, focused on understanding local life, food, music, and stories inside the market—not as a shopping tour. For that reason, it is not advertised as an experience centered on buying products, although guests are always free to purchase anything if they wish. Our intention when visiting artists and musicians is to highlight local talent and provide context about their work and the role they play in the community, rather than rushing through the space. That said, we understand that the pacing and atmosphere did not resonate with you, and we appreciate you sharing that perspective. We will take your comments into account, especially regarding time distribution and expectations, as we continuously look for ways to improve. Thank you again for your honesty.
