What a fun day with Esmee. A nice mix between better known and adventurous places and ditto stories. Her enthusiasm is infectious and she really connects with the people in the group. A special tour, I want more of them.

From the operator’s live schedule on Viator, checked Oct 13.
Central station borders on the river 'het Y'. The place is so buzzing that there are no traffic rules. People have to find their own way without getting damaged. Suprisingly this works like a clock. You have to see it with your own eyes to believe it.
As of 1245 people all over the world came to visit Amsterdam Some came over the river Amstel. Many came over the see. Hannekes tree is and was the gateway for many old sailor. At night the city closed at Hannekes Tree.
Until recently, the Naval Site was not open to the public. It wasn't even visible on Google Maps. This is where the VOC ships were built and the city's ammunition was stored. Less than a kilometer from the city center! Recently, it has become a recreation area. The officers' buildings are rented out to startups focusing on water quality worldwide. There are some great hotels, and the harbor has become a public swimming pool. Here, we toast to a pleasant day. Anyone who's interested can take a refreshing dip. (Bring a towel!)
An old, restored VOC ship lies in the harbor. It's hard to believe that such a small ship brought Amsterdam so much prosperity and fame.
Then we continue towards the Kromboomsloot. In the Middle Ages, this was just outside the city gate. Now it's the Waag (weigh house) on the Nieuwmarkt. In the 1970s, demolition was threatened due to the construction of a highway. Local residents and squatters revolted. Now, there are no cars rushing through here, but there are a lot of tourists. We don't stay long but quickly cut through via the always bustling Zeedijk to the Singelgracht.
We zigzag along the quays and bridges of the Herengracht, Keizersgracht, and Prinsengracht canals. We see large warehouses, small houses, alleyways, and red-light windows. We're in the heart of the city, yet it's peaceful. Here, you experience the Amsterdam of the past.
We pass the Anne Frank House on the Prinsengracht.
From Anne Frank's house, we dive into the Jordaan district. Famous for its traditional Dutch cafés, narrow streets, tiny houses, and hidden courtyards. At the end of the Jordaan is a brilliant café. We'll have a drink and afterwards we walk to my house. A gorgeous House built in 1880 where we will share a 2 course diner, enjoy the view over the canals and enjoy each other.
We'll conclude the walking portion of the tour at the legendary Café Papeneiland in the Jordaan district. This is one of Amsterdam's last authentic traditional pubs. At the Noordermarkt around the corner, you can find fresh catch from the North Sea and local produce every Saturday.
(min. 3 max. 10)

What a fun day with Esmee. A nice mix between better known and adventurous places and ditto stories. Her enthusiasm is infectious and she really connects with the people in the group. A special tour, I want more of them.
By ferry we went to the NDSM island for a cup of coffee and a tour. Then towards the Jordaan via unexpected quiet and picturesque neighbourhoods. The stories of Esmee were very rewarding. The closing dinner at Esmee turned into a musical feast.
What a special day to experience Amsterdam in an alternative way with Esmee. Through her I discovered with a group of other participants the side of the city that is authentic, artistic monuments, art, history explained, architecture discussed along the way with humor and in an inspired and sympathetic way. Finally a delicious dinner the cozy home of our guide prepared by her herself! Highly recommended!
It was a fun informative walking tour through Amsterdam North! Recommended for young and old. Also nice stops and nice break locations.
Dankjewel voor je fijne reactie. Het was een super fijne dag ook dankzij jou. Tot een volgende keer.
Very pleasant and fun walk through a piece of Amsterdam that I didn't know well. Esmee is a warm and cheerful guide who gave nice information about the places we encountered on our walk. The dinner they served after the walk at her home was delicious.
Zo fijn om te lezen dat je het zo naar je zin hebt gehad. Dankjewel en hopelijk tot ziens!! (op de andere tour bijvoorbeeld ;-)
I had such a great walking tour with Esmee. She is a real story teller and knows a lot about the city. She takes you to places ‘off the beaten track’ and we had so much fun. She is an amazing cook as well so the combination of exploring beautiful parts of the city and a dinner at her charming house is just the best! If you are in town, make sure you book a walking tour and dinner with her!
Thank you so much for this great review. It was a pleasure to have you and your family with. You are welcome o join any time you are back in Amsterdam.
Esmee is a storyteller and tells anekdotes, streetstories, historic details about Amsterdam you can get from her as a woman of Amsterdam. The way we walked through the city is like a timecapsule in delay ( walkingspeed). I really enjoyed the whole walk and dinner at her house close to the Jordaan as a filmisch decor. I can certainly recommend her tour and dinner! Lovely Gerrald
Esmee is dynamic and connecting the group quickly becomes friendly. She stimulates you during the walk with questions and fun historical facts. Also nice if you already know your city, you look with different eyes. Finally delicious food and everyone has become your friend. Feeling good going home.
What a nice city walk. To less pissed off but interesting places. Esmée has nice stories at the places and provides a very nice group dynamic...so a city tour can be so much fun.
