Our guide, Edwin Tintaya, made our 2 day Short Inca Trail tour to Machu Picchu an amazing experience! He was knowledgeable, encouraging, and made sure everyone in the group had a good time. Edwin’s attention to detail and communication made it easy for all of us. I highly recommend the Tierras Vivas Company and especially Edwin.

Me, my fiancé and my friend did the full day Machu pichu tour on October 27 with a tour guide (Samuel). Everything went smooth, from the beginning when they picked us up from our air bnb in Cusco and dropped us off at our Vistadome train station at Poroy to go to Aguas Calientes, where Vanessa met us and guided us to go take the bus to Machu Pichu, where Samuel was waiting for us. Samuel is very knowledgeable, very friendly, and answered all our questions about the history of the Inkas. Everything worked out great. Weather was also very nice that day. Once the tour ended, Samuel guided us back to Aguas Calientes and recommended somewhere to eat, before boarding our train back to Poroy, where someone was waiting to take us back to Cusco. Thank you Tierras Vivas for an amazing experience 🙏

We are still in awe of the amazing experience we had in Machu Picchu during our 9/28-9/29, 2025 dash through! We had a wonderful time and received excellent service. Tierras Vivas does an excellent job promoting tourism in Peru in a coordinated, friendly, and very organized manner. From planning, all the way to the last ride to our hotel in Lima, Tierras Vivas demonstrated great professionalism. Everything was very detailed and with excellent communication, in English and Spanish. From Yamelin, Judith, Efrén, to Samuel and all the drivers, Tierras Vivas made us feel at home: safe, and at peace. Our tour guide, Edwin, the best!!! His knowledge, his great sense of humor, and his command of English made Machu Picchu an unforgettable experience. Edwin is a great ambassador of culture, and the hours passed very pleasantly while we learned about the Inca Empire. From the bottom of my heart, I thank Tierras Vivas for this adventure, which it would not have been possible without all the love and excellent work.

Sara was an amazing guide with lots of knowledge about the sites and Peru in general. We did the 2-day hike to Machu Picchu and while I’d rate the hike as “difficult” rather than”moderate” it was well worth it! Bring more water than you think! There were a lot of incredible sites along the Inka Trail that we would have missed had we not don’t this option. Machu Picchu speaks for itself - what an unforgettable experience! We climbed up to Machu Picchu Mountain which was also challenging (basically stairs the whole way up) but a cool experience as well.
This review is for part of a 10-day tour that I took with Tierras Vivas as Tripadvisor doesn't have it listed. The 2-day MP tour was great. I received the train and bus tickets from their representative in Cusco and I met their representative (Sam) in Aguas Calientes the night before going to MP. My private guide at MP was Fred and I had an awesome time with him (5 stars for him). He was very knowledgeable, spoke English very well and offered to take numerous photos of me at the site since I was on my own. My tour was Circuit 2 and we used the 3 hours allotted for this tour. Fred mentioned that 5,000 persons are allowed at Machu Picchu per day; down from 9,000 before the pandemic so be sure you book your tickets online or have a tour company do it ahead of reaching the town if you have your heart set on visiting this wonderful site. Tierras Vivas booked the 10 am entry slot for me. I am not sure if you can request for an earlier time which I would have preferred. Same for the train-I would have preferred earlier times arriving to Aguas Calinentes and departing the town. I arrived at my hotel in Cusco ~ 830 pm as my train ride was booked for 422 pm and there was a slight delay during the train ride back to Ollantaytambo. I would also ask if you can choose which circuit you will be on since there are now 5 different ones. I lucked out and got Circuit 2 which was the one I wanted to do. You may end up on a circuit that may not be your 1st choice. The tour included assigned seating on the Vistadome train and 1 night stay at a hotel which I have a separate review of. Due to the crowd it is best to stand in line for your bus to MP 1 1/2 hours before your entry time to the site. There were people lined up 2 hours prior to their entry time. The plus side is the staff who checks your ticket and passport will stamp your ticket with the MP stamp (which you can also get at the IPeru office near the main square and onsite at MP). The line to catch the bus back into town was also very long and on a 1st come 1st serve bases. Be sure to allow enough time to catch your train back.
Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with Tierras Vivas! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your 10-day tour and especially your time at Machu Picchu with Fred. It's wonderful to know he provided you with a memorable and informative visit, and we'll be sure to pass on your kind words to him. Regarding the scheduling, we always aim to optimize the experience for our customers, especially during the rainy season. In November, mornings are often cloudy, so we typically secure mid-morning tickets to ensure better visibility and a more enjoyable visit. While it’s possible to choose specific entry times and circuits, we prioritize options that enhance the overall experience for our travelers. We appreciate your feedback about the train and bus schedules and will continue working to offer flexibility and convenience while accommodating logistics. Thank you for highlighting the importance of planning ahead for tickets and entry to Machu Picchu—your insights will be helpful for future travelers. We hope to welcome you back for another adventure in Peru!

Everything worked out well, I would just not book this trip anymore because it is quite overpriced. I had one contact person who managed the trip and did a good job, reacted super fast when something was not working, always helpful and very friendly. The transport from Cusco to Aguas Clientes worked well, when arriving at the train station the city I was supposed to be picked up by someone from the hotel, the pickup was at the exit of the train station, but unfortunately that was not clear to me as the exit is also very bad indicated and you can walk directly to the main square without walking through the official entrance of the train station. On the next morning the coordination for taking the bus up to Machu Picchu was a bit weird because we were not waiting in the queue as everyone, just the people who had an earlier ticket for Machu Picchu went to a queue and the rest of us joined them after some point. That was not communicated clearly, so it was a lot of standing around next to a super long queue without further information. On the way back there was also supposed to be a driver with my name waiting, I walked by everyone and still could not see it, I got support on telephone but the coordination could have been better. A very good point was that the agency kept my luggage during the stay as I changed hotels for before and after the trip. Thank you for the great support! Machu Picchu was also super nice as well as having had time to explore Aguas Clientes myself. The hotel was also very good, as well as the train ride. I would just recommended book it by yourself, there are also many options in Cusco to get a car ride to the trainstaion and back.
Thank you for your detailed review, and we sincerely apologize for the challenges you encountered during your trip. We understand that your experience wasn't as smooth as it should have been, and we truly regret any confusion that may have been caused. Regarding the delays, on the day of your trip there was an unfortunate accident involving the Consettur transportation that runs the route between Machu Picchu and Aguas Calientes. This incident caused significant delays and disruptions in the transportation schedule, and as a result, the train was also delayed. Please know that this was beyond our control and our team worked diligently to manage the situation and ensure that all affected clients were taken care of and safely transported to Cusco. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by these delays and the lack of communication during this time. We also acknowledge the confusion regarding the train station pickup and Machu Picchu bus coordination. We will take your feedback into consideration to improve our communication and ensure that all aspects of the trip are made clear in the future. We're glad you appreciated our luggage service and enjoyed the beauty of Machu Picchu and Aguas Calientes, as well as the quality of the hotel and train ride. Your kind words about the support of our team are very much appreciated. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience and assure you that we are constantly working to improve our services. We hope to see you again in the future.
