Eighteen Greek destinations in one place: which islands connect to which, what the mainland offers when half the islands are shut, and what a day out costs from Athens.
In the order Viator’s own catalogue puts them — most-booked first, not alphabetical.
Grouped by region using Viator’s own map of the country. The first block is the places it files directly under Greece.
From our own price index — 2,400 tours across 50 cities, collected August 2026. Medians, not averages: a couple of multi-day packages drag an average into fiction.

Island hopping runs on ferries that thin out sharply outside summer, and the routes are not a network — many islands connect to Piraeus rather than to each other. Two islands in one week is easy in August and can be impossible in April. Check the actual sailing before you book the second hotel.
Timed entry with capped numbers in summer, no shade anywhere on the rock, and cruise groups arriving from mid-morning. The opening slot or the final two hours are a different experience from eleven o’clock in July, and cost the same.
The northerly summer wind across the Cyclades is strongest in July and August and routinely stops sea taxis, small-boat cruises and catamarans at short notice. The large ferries usually keep running. Build a spare day into anything that has to happen on water.
It moves year to year and often falls weeks after the Catholic and Protestant one. It is the biggest domestic travel week in Greece: islands fill with Athenians, ferries sell out, and many businesses close for the days around it.
Delphi, Meteora and Nafplio are day trips or easy overnights from Athens, and they run all year. When the islands are down to a skeleton ferry timetable from November, this is where the country is still fully open.
Underfoot they are slippery when worn, overhead there is nothing. Proper shoes, a hat and water, and a guided visit early rather than a self-guided one at midday — this is one of the countries where the time of day matters more than the ticket.
