White Water Rafting in Zimbabwe

An unforgettable experience on the Zambezi River with a team of 10! I went rafting on the Zambezi River last August 26th with my family (my partner, my two children) and two friends. Without a doubt, one of the best decisions of the trip. Visiting Victoria Falls and not doing this descent should be unforgivable. We want to send a huge hug to our guide, James (I think that's how it's spelled, you will easily identify him by a small scar he has on his face). He made us have an absolutely unforgettable day. He has a technical control of the raft and the river that is simply unique, which conveys total safety at all times. The rest of the guide team and the support staff also demonstrated an extraordinary technical level. In fact, I would say that the only real requirement to enjoy this activity is to have a minimum level of physical fitness to walk the trails down to the river course and the climb back up. A detail worth noting: they had a raft with a platform and large oars so that those who did not want to row (or preferred not to exert themselves as much) could enjoy the trip without any problem. In addition, the whitewater safety kayakers who accompanied us guaranteed an impeccable level of protection at all times. Great professionalism and unparalleled personal treatment. It was certainly one of the BEST things to do at Vic Falls without a doubt. Good points: - The white water rafting itself was exhilarating! A huge adrenaline rush a really fun activity to do with friends! - Our guide, Stuart was GREAT! We really trusted him and he made us feel safe throughout. - Food was good and all safety equipment provided. Bad points: - When we signed up the Look Up, the lady at the counter was very unfriendly and cold. Not welcoming at all. Worse still, she didn’t put our booking into the system. - The next day we waited 1.5 hours to be picked up. We called 4 times before they found our booking and apologised for overlooking us and then took another 44 mins to find the house we were staying at. - the briefing about the activity was minimal - no information on duration or about the HUGE 600 m climb at the end. - we thought the activity was the whole day and would finish at 4pm, and then it ended at 1pm.

I have white water rafted in Italy, Albania, Slovenia, Iceland and Nepal. The Zambezi River was the best I have ever done. I can't recommend it enough. I also recommend Wild Horizons.

100% amazing. Every single aspect of the days adventure was simply fantastic. The briefing, the guides friendliness and helpfulness, the actual rafting, the walk out and how the guides helped those who needed it, the lunch, the people who were on the trip. The fun!!!! Absolutely the best adventure we've had in Zimbabwe. We booked through Shearwater - that I wouldn't recommend as they don't run it anymore, WH do it and so should have gone direct. Well done WH

What an incredible day!! We got picked up from our accom and taken to the meeting point (Lookout cafe). There we got a run-down and instructions on what was going to happen. It took an hour in an open truck to get to the site, loved seeing everything tho!! Next we walked down to the river, which took approx 45min, it’s rocky and you have to be sure footed!! Jumped in the raft with a family from the UK, got lessons and off we went!! Absolutely looooved it, every second of it! There were 3 other rafts near us, people from each raft, including ours, fell out! The water however was not ice cold like we imagined, wasn’t too bad at all given it is winter here! Next….the hike back up the side of the canyon….not easy AT ALL. It took us (mid-50’s in good health) to get back up to the top, exhausting, hot, hard damned work. When we finally got to the top we had a lovely lunch and drinks, then jumped back in the truck and headed back, of course it’s a diff way as we were at a diff part of the canyon. Dropped off directly at our accom. Had a shower, scrubbed very dirty shoes then rapidly fell asleep 😂😂. I would happily do it again but this time would train on a step-climber for sometime beforehand. I can’t feel my thighs or arse today 😂😂

saw 3 people get injured, and many others suffered from dehydration, severe muscle cramps, and exhaustion. There was very little assistance for people who struggled. COMPANY needs to do better built bettee trail fix with engineer . . I would not recommend it to anyone except those in excellent physical condition. If you have any heart, breathing, knee, or back problems, avoid it. Also breakfast sucks you must be well feed , the lunch was ok.

The rafting was great fun, and very exhilarating. The staff were great. Felt very safe due to the equipment and the staff in the boat and in support boats. Be prepared for a steep climb in and out of the gorge to get to the river, but it's worth it. We bought the photo's and they were good value, some great shots reminding us of good memories.

Our family of 4 - kids 23 & 16 had such an amazing day going down the Zambezi River with 12 different rapids; flipped on one (bit scary) & all scrambled back on; some free swimming with the current. Such a memorable day and very steep walk down & up to rafts !

It was a thrilling experience riding the rapids of the almighty Zambezi River. Fantastic highly recommended. Complimentary lunch was provided with beer and soft drinks was offered after activity. Guides were super helpful and kind. The only word of caution that unless you in really good shape the hike out of the gorge is grueling and will leave you exhausted.

We had an awesome experience! The team is highly professional. They insisted on maximal safety and security while not forgetting to make sure we had a lot of fun.
