Wisconsin Avenue is Georgetown's beating heart, and that's where your local guide will start. Your first stop is a neighborhood favorite from a Michelin-recognized chef, known for fresh pita and creamy hummus, and for a line that stretches down the block. Next, a longtime local butcher shop serves up Washington's famous handmade half smoke, a true D.C. classic. Along the way, pass the former home of Julia Child and hear how she introduced generations of Americans to French cooking. At the Georgetown waterfront, sink your teeth into a farm-to-table taco loaded with seasonal flavor. Stroll past the historic C&O Canal, catch a glimpse of the legendary Blues Alley jazz club, and see the Old Stone House, the oldest unchanged building in D.C. Save room for one of the city's favorite cupcakes from a beloved local bakery, plus our Secret Dish, a surprise bite that captures the true character of Georgetown.
First, our expert guide will introduce you to our tour and the history and architecture of Georgetown. You will pass by the famous Georgetown University - a beacon of academic excellence and one of the United States' most distinguished institutions of higher learning.
Following that, you'll have the chance to dine at a restaurant situated in a delightful Federal-style townhouse dating back to the mid-1800s. Delight in a timeless dish that possesses a unique and subtle tie to the history of Washington, D.C.
Next, enter the realm of film history at the legendary horror movie location, a place forever etched in the annals of the silver screen. Take in the awe-inspiring views of the Francis Scott Key Bridge and embark on a leisurely stroll down NM Avenue, an absolute must-see destination in Washington, D.C. Continuing on your gastronomic journey, prepare to be pleasantly surprised by a staple of Washington, D.C.'s food identity at an unconventional venue.
Following that, immerse yourself in the enchantment of the Georgetown Waterfront Gate Complex. It's one of the coolest spots in Georgetown, brimming with beautiful natural sights, modern architecture, and, of course, history!

Booked this tour for a staff outing based on positive reviews and it wasn't the right fit for us. The private tour expense didn't come close to the food menu prices or the tour service provided. We were looking forward to fun DC history that us locals haven't heard before, but it was sparse and underwhelming. It says under two miles, but our watches tracked over three miles - which would've been fine if there was a consistent/entertaining tour narrative while we strolled. Although the portions were small & "6+" dishes is a stretch (one was a shared cup of pickled veggies), we left appropriately full and we enjoyed the mix of cuisines & restaurants.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're glad your team had fun together, and we appreciate you giving our private tour a try for your staff outing. Regarding the walking, this is actually one of our shortest routes at just under 1.7 miles on mostly flat streets. The walk is designed to connect some of Georgetown's most notable landmarks while giving guests the chance to experience the neighborhood between food stops. We also appreciate you sharing your thoughts about your guide. He is one of our most experienced guides and has led tours for many years, earning consistently positive feedback from guests. We know every group has different expectations and preferences, and we appreciate hearing your perspective. That said, we thank you again for sharing your experience. Feedback like yours is always valuable, and we'd love the opportunity to welcome your team back on another Secret Food Tour in the future.
Stewart was an excellent guide. He walked us through our meals while also giving us the history of the restaurants and various attractions we passed along the way.
