Walking tour

It wasn’t the best. I messaged a month prior to booking asking about parking. Never received a response. I canceled and rebooked, asked about parking again and never received a response. When we arrived to the tour, there was an open parking spot for both cars. I asked the tour guide if it was OK for us to park there as we did not see any signs telling us we couldn’t. She said maybe but she’s not sure if they’ll tow the car or not. We came back and there was a boot on the wheel of the car. We had to pay $15 to have it removed. Being knowledgeable about parking would be very helpful as most of your tourist are not from Curacao. Responding to your messages prior to the booking date would also be helpful. As far as a tour, I don’t feel like she was as knowledgeable. Very patient and a very nice woman, but it was a challenge, keeping us engaged because she didn’t really know much about the history. She just kept taking us to statues telling us “this person help fight for us.” not once was there an aha moment. Even with the statue of big mama, there was no story of how it came to be. Like I said very sweet girl, but she could definitely use training by a more experienced guide.

Operator response

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that parts of the experience did not meet your expectations. Regarding parking, this is unfortunately outside of the tour operation and is not controlled by our guide or company. Parking rules, enforcement, towing, and wheel booting are managed by the property or local authorities. Our guides are not authorized to confirm whether a specific parking space is permitted, especially when there are no visible signs or when guests arrive with their own vehicles. We do understand that clearer parking information can help visitors, and we will review how we can better communicate general guidance before the tour. We also regret that your message was not answered before the tour date. That is a fair point, and we will review our communication process to avoid missed inquiries. Regarding the guiding experience, we appreciate your comments. We are glad to hear the guide was patient and kind, but we also take seriously your feedback about the historical storytelling and level of detail. We will use this as part of our internal coaching to strengthen the delivery and make the experience more engaging for future guests. Thank you again for your feedback.

Walking commentary

It was a quiet Monday so it turned out to be a personal tour, myself and my son, with Joel. Great conversation about the history of Curaçao, what the locals like and where they live, various fruits grown here and what comes from Venezuela. Joel answered all our questions and was knowledgeable about Curaçao. Very friendly as well.

Save your money and skip this tour

The tour guide was more than a half hour late and not well informed. He provided A lot of inaccurate information that I verified on line. He was nice enough and spoke English but this tour is a complete waste of time and money. I would try to search of Viator when in Curaçao.

Operator response

Dear Debora, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear you left disappointed, and we’d like to clarify a few important points for accuracy. Our Colorful History Walking Tour operates on a fixed schedule and our guides are expected to be at the meeting point ahead of departure. A delay of “more than a half hour” is not typical for this product, and we have no operational note indicating a late start of that length on the departure in question. That said, we recognize that busy city conditions and meeting-point confusion can sometimes affect perception of timing, and we regret that the start did not feel smooth from your side. Regarding the commentary: our guides follow a structured route and script built around Curaçao’s major historical periods, landmarks, and cultural context. Online sources often contain simplified, conflicting, or incomplete information—especially around local history—so “verification” can vary depending on what sites are consulted. If there is specific information you believe was inaccurate, we would welcome the detail so we can validate it internally and correct it if needed. We do appreciate your note that the guide was polite and spoke English well. We regret, however, that the overall experience did not meet your expectations, and we will continue working to ensure every guest receives a high-quality, informative walking tour that reflects the richness of Willemstad’s history.

Worth it to see a colorful town!

Was a really great introduction to the history and current culture of Curacao. It was our first time visit. This walk took us through small streets and we saw a lot of murals and other outdoor art. “Colorful” is the perfect description. Joel was our tour guide and 10/10 - spoke loud and clear enough for a mixed group of about 10 people, with lots of local knowledge. Was a 2:30 walking tour, leisurely with frequent pauses to learn or see something, mostly level with a few stairs and crossing a bridge. Highly recommend spending the morning doing this tour to efficiently see something of the city and learn about Curacao.

We started our tour at the RIF Fort and learned all about the surrounding buildings and the Old Swinging Lady.

Nubia was our tour guide, she was very informative and we enjoyed learning all about the area.

Unfortunately missed

We arrived at the meeting point and could not find our Tour guide. We asked 4 other Tour guides in the same location and none of them were able to help. Unfortunately missed it. Kinda hard to catchh if you are not coming off a cruise ship.

Operator response

Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we’re genuinely sorry that you were not able to join The Curacao’s Colorful History Walking Tour. Our guide was present at the designated meeting point at the scheduled time, and other guests on the same departure were able to locate the group and participate in the tour. We understand, however, that if you’re not arriving via a cruise ship, it can sometimes be more confusing to find the exact spot in a busy area with multiple guides and operators around. For this tour, the exact meeting point and the name of our company are clearly listed on the voucher, along with an emergency contact number meant to be used in situations like this when guests are having trouble finding the guide. It seems there may have been a misunderstanding or misconnection at that stage, and we are sorry it resulted in you missing the experience. We appreciate your comment about it being “hard to catch if you are not coming off a cruise ship” and will review our written instructions to see where we can make them even clearer for independent travelers in the future. Thank you again for your feedback.
