Walk with a local

Dinarte guided on the Wednesday walk to Caldeirão Verde Levada. The walk walk was fantastic but perhaps more of a 4 on the difficulty scale than a 3 as there were a-lot of steps up and down. Nothing out of scope for people who walk regularly though and our group p had no trouble with it. Dinarte was friendly and knowledgeable and took us on a route that avoided other tourists as much as possible. Dinarte also provided torches to make seeing in the various tunnels easier. The tunnels were quite low and narrow but only a short distance. Pick up and drop off were well organised. As the description suggests the trip takes up most of the day.

We booked the Fanal Forest hike. It was a fabulous day from start to finish. Dinarte was a fantastic guide. His knowledge of the wildlife, Forrest plants, and Maderia history and way of life was fantastic and really added to our experience. I cannot recommend his tours highly enough.

Dinarte was a fabulous guide. He shared so much knowledge about Madeira, the flowers, the crops and everything around us. The walk was slow and very doable. We all felt safe and comfortable. Stunning views along the way. My only issue was that I wished there were more incline but learned that all levada walks are flat by nature so it was a learning experience for me.

We booked a guided hike with Dinarte to visit the Fanal Laurel Forest, and it was a wonderful experience. Dinarte is an incredibly knowledgeable, pleasant, and courteous guide. Throughout the hike, he shared fascinating insights about Madeira’s nature, flora and fauna, including native and invasive species, endangered birds, and the island’s history. He also took us to see what is believed to be the oldest laurel tree in the forest, as well as several beautiful trails and spots that are not usually included in standard tours. One thing we particularly appreciated was how thoughtfully he plans each hike to avoid the crowds and create a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere. We truly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend Dinarte to anyone interested in discovering Madeira and its unique natural beauty. This particular hike lasted about 3 hours and covered approximately 7 km. It is relatively easy and accessible for most people.

We had an absolutely fantastic experience on our Levada walk in Madeira, visiting the beautiful 25 Fountains. Our tour guide Deano, was exceptional from start to finish: knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the island. They made the whole journey enjoyable and engaging, sharing interesting insights about the local landscape, flora, and history along the way. The pace was perfect, allowing us to take in the stunning scenery without ever feeling rushed. The 25 Fountains themselves were breathtaking, and our guide made sure we had plenty of time to explore, take photos, and really appreciate the natural beauty. What stood out most was how attentive and supportive they were throughout the walk, ensuring everyone in the group felt comfortable and included. It truly felt like a well-organised and memorable adventure. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Madeira, it was one of the highlights of our trip!

We chose Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço because we like coastal walks and because it wasn’t too challenging for us “older folks!” Dinarte is a charming and knowledgable guide with a genuine love for his country and its nature. We leant a lot about the plants and wildlife. A very interesting walk with attention to our safety and well being. Highly recommended

We took three different hikes with Dinarte during our week in Madeira. On each hike Dinarte provided exceptional guide services. He is extremely knowledgeable about the ecosystems and plant and bird life of the area. He was very safety conscious, made sure the group stayed together, and that we watched out for low hanging branches, and slippery steps. I highly recommend going with Dinarte for your hikes in Madeira.

Booking less than 24 hours before gave little excitement on whether the booking had passed. We were gathered up at the hotel, almost on time. It was not the Levada that stood as a Wednesday trip, but another very nice Levada. The guide was good at telling about animals and plants. Very exotic hiking.

My husband and I really enjoyed this hike. Dino organised a great route to the levada which was very peaceful with hardly any other walkers on the route, it was a good challenge and quite high, and Dino was exceptionally patient as I’m slow going uphill, the scenery was beautiful. Dino is very knowledgeable and chatted to us about Madeira’s trees and birds etc and about the history of the levada system. He was very safety conscious too, always pointing out any potential trip hazards etc. We had a great day, it’s definitely worth doing a small tour with Dino, you can go at your own pace, it’s more peaceful and he’s a very nice guy! I would highly recommend this. Thank you Dino!
