Verde Canyon Railroad Adventure Package

The scenery viewed during this trip is truly exciting. However, at least a dozen folks in the railroad car I was assigned treated this experience as a 4-hour happy hour. They clearly had consumed some alcoholic drinks before boarding the train, and they continued their consumption regularly through the trip. As a result, they were loud and boisterous throughout the trip. At a few points, we (my wife and I) heard a few words from what seemed to be a commentary from the company about what we were seeing, but we could actually understand only a word now and then. Also, when the commentary stopped, apparently the sound system played country music. However, all we could hear were a few long notes that might have been part of a song. Overall, the audio system was reasonably quiet, did not allow individual listening, and was overwhelmed by a dozen or more riders. As additional troubles, after making reservations, we received emails indicating we needed to use the viator app to view our tickets. Following the link in the email, I was told that the app was not available for my device (a MacBook with operating system updated to the current version in the last week). When I went directly to the Apple Store to download the viator app, I performed the download and apparently installed the app, but when I logged in I was told there were no bookings---I could not access any previously-purchased tickets through the app. Eventually, after over 1.5 hours of unsuccessful work to make the app work, I found several older emails. Most yielded the same troubles already described, but one allowed me to view the tickets. Then, after 1.5 hours working to get the tickets, it turned out the email was wrong, and I did not need them, as I could just give my name when I arrived at the train station. Summary regarding tickets and technology: the app described as being essential for tickets simply does not work, but can consume much time as one tries to do what viator requests. Further, the audio system was inaudible and did not allow individual listening. (If individual listening works fine for hop-on, hop-off tours of big cities, clearly the technology is available to resolve many of these troubles, but the current system invites frustration and worse! Summary overall: The scenery is wonderful,. However, the system for getting the actual tickets is awful---time consuming, frustrating, and thoroughly unprofessional. Further, a recorded commentary might (or might not) provide worthwhile information if one cold hear it. The bottom line is that the value of the on-train experience depends, to a considerable degree, on the other people in the railroad car where you are assigned. If they are loud and drunk for much of the trip, then their 4-hour happy hour can undermine whatever interest and pleasure might be gained from the scenery.

Train trip was beautiful. Our train car guide Craig was informative and willingly answer questions. Our bartender/train hostess Eve was awesome. Her vivacious personality kept everyone smiling and she makes the best drink drinks. The charcuterie tray was a nice surprise. Would highly recommend this trip.

The tour guide was very informative. Our car attendant was full of energy and fun. It was a beautiful ride through the valley. Charcuterie board and champagne toast was a nice addition. Fun was had by all.

Sit by the window with the table for 2. Much, much better view. Unfortunately it rained the whole trip so I couldn't make use of the outdoor car.

We were on a girls trip and it happened to be on a rainy day, so we were dry comfortable and entertained. Our tour guide, Ron, was very personable, friendly and an all around great guy. Upon boarding we found our Charcuterie board trays and Champagne on the table in front of the comfy couches for our trip. We were shown some rock formations that ROM had named, and yes they did look like what he had named them. Also some homesteaders that direct family members must live at them in order that they don’t go back to the State. Beautiful views of the river and mountains. All in all we must say that this trip was a highlight of our week in Sedona and surrounding area. Would definitely do this again. Again thank you ROM for your knowledge and entertainment.

The trip was very enjoyable and comfortable! The staff was extremely friendly and strived to make sure everything was perfect! Highly recommend this trip to see the Verde Canyon from the valley floor

This wss s great way to spend a rainy day. When we arrived to the train station we were given a meal voucher. We had forgotten about that and had q late breakfast. We both got the wings and fries as we could heat those up later. When we got to our seats in the Scottsdale coach we found charcuterie plates as well. If someone left there hungry it was their own fault! Drinks, water and champagne were also provided. We toasted car prior to us leaving the station. We had a small table and 2 chairs, which were very comfortable. Across from us were small couches that also looked comfortable. The car was clean, as was the bathroom. Romn was our attendant and bartender. He did a great job answering our questions, suggesting picture shots, and mingling with all the people in the car. A very personable individual. The outdoor car has seats and a cover for inclement weather. This might be pricey, but well worth the experience. We would most definitely go on this again!

You better put this on the bucket list. You got to do this!! The staff was will mannered, very informative knew the history of the area very well. You could tell they loved their work.
