Itinerary
It’s not the destination, it’s the journey! Enjoy a luxurious train ride through a 20-mile wilderness area, along a wild and scenic river, only accessible by rail. For 3.5-hours, enjoy comfort and style, exceptional amenities and outstanding service in vintage rail cars on a century-old route. Wind your way through a red rock paradise, with tracks that hug the curves of the Verde River. Every season offers a different reason to ride! Astonishing views of a wild and vibrant frontier, historic trestles, bridges and a 7000-foot tunnel are just a few of the highlights tucked into unusual rock formations, red rock pinnacles and towering crimson cliffs. Majestic bald eagles and hawks float effortlessly on the breeze above Javelina, wild burros, jackrabbits and many other Canyon creatures, peacefully coexisting with this heritage railroad for more than 100 years.
At the depot, be sure to visit the John Bell Museum, home to the railroad's history and artifacts from its early days, as well as a wealth of information on Clarkdale, Jerome and the Yavapai-Apache Nation.
The train runs on the same tracks that were created following the Verde River back in 1911. The river is visible for most of your journey.
SOB Canyon and the 150 ft tall bridge are highlights of the trip. Looking back from the bridge and down the canyon is simply gorgeous!
Discover the history of Perkinsville Ghost Town through on-board commentary on your train journey. This is the turn-around point of your trip.

This train ride was fantastic! Highly recommend! I went with my husband and our 2 school age kids and saw lots of different types of travelers- friends, partners, and solo. The inside car was cozy and comfortable. The four of us had 2 comfy couches and a coffee table b/w us for food and drinks. The outside car was covered and had seating. It was such an experience riding an authentic train and seeing the beautiful scenery. Craig, our guide on the outside car did a great job pointing out cool things to see like cliff dwellings from 700yrs ago and wildlife. This was a huge hit for all 4 of us including my tween and teen! It was worth every penny.
Stephanie, thanks for riding with us and sharing this great recap. We love that we are fun for all ages! We will be sure to share your kind words with Craig.
To be honest, I was not interested in going. SO glad I did!!! It is well worth the money. A wonderful lunch, charcuterie, Champagne and water were all included with the price. And we were really full after all of that. Dani and Tristan were wonderful guides, Dani was the guide inside, as well as, the bartender and Tristan was our guide outside on the open train. They were so fantastic!!! Please if you have a chance to go. DO IT!

We were treated exceptionally well, with a delicious and generous meal beforehand and hors 'd oeuvres while onboard. Pleasant and scenic trip with friendly, knowledgeable staff. We plan to repeat the trip sometime in the winter months so that we can spend more time in the open (outdoor) railroad cars when it is not as warm. Also enjoyed visiting with other passengers.
Alan, thanks for riding with us and sharing this lovely review. We're delighted you enjoyed the experience and look forward to welcoming you back.
