Venice Carnival Mask Workshop & Casanova Prison Palace Experience

Really fun for having a different experience with friends. Possibility to experiment with different techniques and customize a typical mask in total freedom to take home as a souvenir, but totally unique.

Nice experience, too bad there are no feathers and glitter. Only paint. But that shouldn't spoil the fun, we'll add that at home.

It was ok. The instructions said to be there fifteenth minutes early however, our instructor was 9 minutes late so we came early and stood around confused and anxious that we were in the wrong place. When the instructor came, he told us that he was ill. The Viator description listed a tour and history of Venetian masks however we never got it. Insisted, he led us to a room with masks, gave us paint, and suggested we other masks for inspiration. Instead of educating us on the masks, he gave us a print out and encouraged to read at our convenience. About half way through, he offered to help us with details and began explaining the other masks. The next class arrived and he then began to explain more to them so we listened in. As we were leaving, he apologized for forgetting to give us gloves. If I could redo, I would skip this class. You can purchase the same cheap masks for less than 10 euro and paint them at your leisure. Only positive note was that our masks came out beautifully.

Decent value for money. The tour of the prison was fascinating and we enjoyed the exhibits, but it was self-directed. Our guide for the mask-decorating segment of the day was Marila, and she was fantastic. Over ninety minutes, she took us through each step of how we could choose to decorate our pieces, as well as furnishing the experience with some compelling history on the origin and function of masks within Venetian history. All the supplies required for painting the masks were ready upon our arrival and we made some lovely memories. Once again, Marila was fabulous and we recommend her highly.

Our family of six, including our four children, had an incredible Venetian mask-making experience that was one of the highlights of our trip to Venice. The instructor was welcoming, patient, and wonderful with kids, making everyone feel comfortable regardless of artistic ability. The experience was hands-on, creative, and engaging, and each of us left with a unique mask and a special keepsake to remember our time in Venice. If you’re traveling as a family, this is an activity we highly recommend. It was fun and educational. Thank you for helping us create such wonderful memories together!

A very nice moment to have with family, regardless of the age of the participants. We have all the time to make our mask; the facilitator does not rush us. It's a shame she doesn't speak French.
