Get ready to admire the breath-taking Sistine Chapel, decorated with some of the most beautiful frescoes ever made. The Sistine chapel is part of the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the Pope. Although the Chapel takes its name from Pope Sixtus IV, the amazing frescoes date back to the patronage of Pope Julius II, at the beginning of the 1500’. It was then when the pope commissioned Michelangelo painting the chapel's ceiling, a project that changed the course of Western art and is regarded as one of the major artistic accomplishments of human civilization. Even more famous is the Last Judgment, from Michelangelo as well. A special place requires special rules: As this is a holy place, there is a dress code policy to comply with. Knees, shoulders and backs must be covered. Pictures cannot be taken at any time. The tour guide cannot give share information concerning the chapel once already in. For this reason the explanation takes place before and after visiting the chapel.

I joined this guided tour of the Vatican Museums in January as a solo traveler and had a very positive experience. The group was relatively small, which made it easy to follow the guide and stay engaged throughout the tour. The group itself was a mix of different travelers, including families, couples, and solo visitors, which showed that this tour is suitable for all types of travelers. Each participant received a headset, so we could clearly hear the guide even in the extremely crowded areas. The Vatican Museums are always very busy, even in winter, so this made a big difference and helped keep the experience enjoyable. Our guide was excellent, very knowledgeable, passionate, and engaging. She explained everything clearly and was very open to questions. She took the time to answer and interact with the group, which made the experience feel more personal and interesting. The tour was well organized, and the entry process was smooth and efficient. Even though access to the Sistine Chapel was unexpectedly unavailable that day, the guide adapted well and showed us other important highlights of the museum. After the guided portion ended, we were free to stay inside and continue exploring on our own, which was a great advantage. Overall, this is an excellent tour if you want a structured and informative visit to the Vatican Museums. I would highly recommend it for solo travelers, couples, and families alike.
