Unfortunately, this was the worst guided experience my family and I have ever had. Our guide, Akira, was a very nice and polite guy, but unfortunately, he was an awful tour guide. There were only three of us — me, my husband, and our child — and it honestly felt like because the group was so small, the company simply sent whoever was available rather than an experienced guide. Akira hardly spoke, his English was very limited, and he provided almost no information about Tsukiji Market, its food, history, or culture. Whenever we asked questions, he usually couldn’t answer them. It felt like we were simply walking around the market with someone, not taking a guided “food & culture” tour. I have traveled to 18 countries and regularly book tours and experiences, and I can genuinely say this was the worst one my family has ever had. After the first 15 minutes, I wanted to leave. We stayed hoping it would get better, and I regret that we did. I don’t know what qualifications or training Akira has as a guide, but this experience was nothing like what was advertised. I absolutely would not recommend it.

We recently visited a Tokyo street market for a food tasting tour with our guide, Lax, and it was an absolute highlight of our trip. We give it a 10/10 and can only recommend it to anyone visiting the city. Without Lax, we would never have discovered or learned as much on our own. He shared so many fascinating insights about the market, the food, and Japanese culture, making the experience both educational and delicious. His English was excellent, and he was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We especially appreciated that he never pressured us to buy or eat anything. Instead, he warmly invited us to try many dishes, making it feel like an exciting culinary adventure rather than a tour. For visitors unfamiliar with Japanese food—and the language—having such a guide makes navigating the market effortless and fun. It was a blast from start to finish, and we would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic, enjoyable taste of Tokyo.
