A Fantastic Way to Experience Māori Culture
Absolutely loved this entire experience. My husband wasn't feeling well, so I went alone and it was fantastic. We saw and did so much, this is a really inclusive way to do it all, and it's run by Maori people who are proud to showcase their culture and educate others about it. You will do everything in the description and more. Worth every penny, highly recommend.

Good to see but very poorly organized!
The reception was okay. We were then divided into 2 groups, each with a different guide who gave us some explanation about Maori culture.
The visit to the kiwis was a disappointment. You are not allowed to take photos (not even without flash). 3 kiwis already separate in a small space behind glass. We unfortunately didn't get the time to look at them properly.
Then we went with the guide to the mud pools and the geyser, but another group had already taken the spot at the top, so we had to look from the other side where the view was more limited.
Then to the restaurant for the buffet. That was fine, but we had to wait a long time for a waiter to order a glass of wine. Then we got our bill per couple, but it wasn't settled. Some couples have paid, others have not.
For the Maori show it was a complete chaos. You were supposed to go to your group, but everyone was spread out at different tables and we didn't know anyone from our group. Since it was going to rain, the first part would go inside anyway. The rain had stopped and we all had to go outside anyway. Then to another hall for the second part of the show. The show itself was worth seeing.
To go to the light show at the geyser was a whole ordeal again. We lost so much time because of that that we could not leave the park more than an hour later than expected. We cancelled the activity we had planned afterwards.

Thank you for your feedback. We're pleased to hear you enjoyed the buffet and found the Māori performance worthwhile.
We're sorry to hear that parts of the evening felt rushed and disorganised. The wellbeing of our kiwi is our top priority, which is why photography is not permitted even without the use of flash photography. We want to ensure no major mishaps happen that could harm our kiwi.
We also apologise for the confusion caused by the weather-related changes and movement between different parts of the experience. We usually start our cultural performance outside but, as a wet weather plan we will move things indoors depending on the conditions.
We appreciate your comments regarding the guide experience, restaurant service, and overall event flow, and will share your feedback with our team for review.
Ngā mihi,

A must see!
Food was AMAZING!!! The performance was so beautiful and really enjoyed learning about the history of the Maori culture. And seeing the geothermal activity on their site with hot chocolate was a perfect way to end the night. Everyone who works there was incredibly kind and helpful, especially since I had a broken foot and needed to be in a wheelchair. Thank you for the touching experience.

Fantastic experience
Everything was perfect, it is truly a visit to make in Rotorua.
The tour of the geysers is magnificent, we went at sunset and the views were splendid.
The buffet was very good and well-stocked, I just regretted that it was not typical of a Maori meal (surely to suit all tastes).
The show gives you chills and the showcasing of Maori culture was regal. As a family, we all loved it.
I recommend it!

Must do in Rotorura
The park is a true natural wonder. Add to that seeing a Kiwi bird, a delicious meal and a Māori culture immersion… this was worth the money and time spent.

A stunning Maori experience
We did this incredible experience in March. Three distinct experiences, all fantastic in their own right. First, an excellent guided tour of the Thermal Park and Maori cultural activities. So much to see and learn. Second, an amazing Hangi Buffet - a relaxed Maori eating experience with so many things to try! Thirdly, a stunning Maori cultural experience performed live. Only one word to sum up the evening - Wow, Wow, Wow!!! Surely the best overall Maori experince in Rotorua! Exceptional. Very highly recommended.

Intensive cultural immersion in a natural setting
An immersive cultural experience in a natural setting affording insights into Maori culture from knowledgeable guides. There's reverent acknowledge for their traditional practices like the haka done in respectful silence. Accentuating the experience were the striking natural geysers - I avoided the tacky night light show.
There's an ample dinner buffet. Too bad there weren't any Maori specialties to try.
All in all one of the highlights of my New Zealand trip.

Amazing cultural experience!
Fantastic night at Te Puia! Our guide, Mere, was so engaging and did an amazing job sharing the history of the land and helping us understand more about the Māori culture as we went through the night. The cultural performance was stunning - you could tell that the performers loved sharing these pieces of their culture, and we enjoyed every second. The hāngī buffet dinner was delicious - we loved trying all the different foods and deserts. Highly recommend this experience!

Really appreciate you taking the time to share this, sounds like you had a pretty special evening with us. Awesome to hear Mere made such a strong impression, she’s great at bringing the stories of this whenua (land) and our culture to life in a way that feels real and easy to connect with.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the cultural performance too, our performers put a lot of heart into what they do so it means a lot hearing it came through. And good to know the hāngī buffet hit the mark, especially getting to try a bit of everything.
Thanks again for the recommendation, hope we can welcome you back again sometime.

Cultural Tour
A guided experience through culture center. Love how they are keeping the old traditions alive through there program. I would have given a higher rating but our guild was not very informative. We could hear other tour guilds giving way more information. The dinner was delicious. And I recommend walking back to the geothermal area after the program for a quieter experience.

thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts, really appreciate it. awesome to hear you enjoyed the experience at the New Zealand Māori Arts & Crafts Institute.
sorry to hear your guide didn’t quite deliver the level of detail you were hoping for, especially when you could hear others sharing more. that’s definitely not the kind of experience we aim for and we’ll pass this on to the team so we can keep improving.
thanks again for your honest feedback and recommendation, it helps us a lot.
